Kimber: Classic vs Eclipse

I have decided to add a Kimber 1911 to my growing gun collection. This will be my first 1911, and I want it to be a good one. Yes, I expect to get all the people telling me to buy Les Baer or Wilson, I simply can't afford those right now.

My question: is the Eclipse worth the extra $175 upgrade from the stainless full size custom classic? I love the looks of both guns, I just don't exactly know what features it has that makes it worth the extra money. I don't really want to be spending a lot of cash at a gunsmith right now, so neither of the guns would be going in to the smith any time soon. I just want something fun, reliable, and accurate out of the box. Please give me the pros and cons of uprgading to the Eclipse II.

I was in the same predicament a few months back. I ended up getting the Eclipse II.
Reasons were Match barrel and bushing, Match grade trigger and of course the checkering front and rear.PLUS The visual beauty of the Eclipse II. These things alone were enough to
help me to decide to upgrade.

I would go with the Classic.

The Eclipse looks like it would make a fine gun for the piano player in a New Orleans whorehouse, though, if you stick some pearl grips on it... :D

Another vote for the Eclipse. Mine is the Pro. It was love at first sight and I don't even play the piano. The match barrel and trigger and night sights were probably the biggest attractions.

Another vote for the Eclipse

went to the store looking for something else and walked out with a Custom Eclipse II. :) Well, didn't actually walk out with it - 10 day wait here, you know. :(
