Kimber chewing up my trigger finger

I just bought a new Kimber pro carry 1911 .45 acp. I took it to the range and put 100 rnds through it. I actually had to stop firing it because my finger hurt too badly to continue. At first it was just irritated when I would fire, then it made a blister, then it opened the blister and I called it a day.

Any idea what is causing the problem? (It has grooves cut vertically on the trigger). Could it just be that I am not gripping it hard enough?

p.s. Is there anything better than a 1911 trigger? :p

In short, it does sound like you are letting the gun move around, thereby causing abrasion and therefore blistering. The other possibility is that you are holding the trigger too tightly.

I shot about 1100 rounds through my Kimber Ultra Elite over two days weekend before last. It also has the grooved trigger. The UE has front and back checkering. I got blistered on each finger of the shooting hand that wrapped the front checkering. I got a blisher on my thumb from riding the safety. The only place I did not get a blister was my trigger finger.

My finger blisters came from holding tightly and wrapping my shooting hand with my weak hand. This tight grip and the checkering did some pretty admirable blistering.

Since you did blister, you can do a few things. First would be to wear a bandaid until your finger toughens. Next, you could work on weak finger shooting or weak hand shooting. Or, you could see about replacing the trigger with a smooth version. I suggest that you don't try to wrap the trigger in some manner because that may dislodge and interfere with the working of the mechanism.

I've tied into a couple triggers where the serrations were a bit sharp. The trigger itself can be easily replaced or whip out some fine grit sandpaper or some other polishing method and take the edges down SLIGHTLY.

Travis, Let me look at that thing before you do anything to it...ok? Maybe we'll HAVE to go shooting this weekend to try that new Kimber!

If ya got blisters, ya gotta shoot until ya got caluses. LOL :p

I got blisters on my fingers.....

Wasn't that a line in an old Beatles tune?

Send me that Kimber, buddy. We'll get along fine, she won't bite *my* finger. ;)

Travis, myself, and another instructor diasnosed this lately...Travis has some pretty wimpy finger skin ;) and was also gripping the gun too low (gun sat high in hand), causing the trigger bottom to catch on said tender extremity ;) . Work will be done on a mid-week range visit to correct the problem, and also to blast some rounds in my new AK! (If I like it and buy it)
