I received many responses to my question concerning which 40 cal is best. The Sig 229 and 2 HK's won hands down! There was only one mention of the Kimber line. Any comments why the Kimber line was not mentioned?

You are asking about a Kimber gun. One of the better 1911 guns made. They are faithfully and historically a 45 caliber gun.
The fact that you are going to a different caliber in this "tried and true" design could make people give you 50 lashes. :D

Or it could be they are very rare. Most everyone who has the
Kimber or any higher end 1911, has the 45 cal. gun.

JUST MY OPINION....I think it would be a great gun....

Shoot well

I have a Kimber Pro Carry in .40SW. It's the black version, not the stainless. It has an aluminum frame and steel slide which makes the gun very light. I thoroughly enjoy shooting it but it is a little snappy in recoil. Otherwise, it's very pointable and fits my hand well.

I've had two problems with the gun. The first was with the front night sight, which is not standard on the gun, going dark. I sent the slide to Kimber where they replaced the sights free of charge and had the slide back to me in under a week. The other problem is that the thumb safety rubs the base of my thumb while shooting. It rubs enough to cause a blister after only about 100 rounds. I'm slowly building up a callous there which will hopefully improve the situation, but that's gonna take awhile. I think it is do to the fact that I use a high thumb grip while shooting; my shooting hand thumb rides the safety.

But overall the gun is great. I will buy another Kimber, this time a Pro Eclipse in .45, when I go shopping for another pistol.

I've never shot any other pistol in .40SW, so I can't offer a comparison.

If you do get a Pro Carry, buy some McCormick 10mm mags. They run better than the Kimber mags, my opinion, and are pre-drilled for base pads. Also, I can squeeze in 9 rounds instead of 8 on the factory mags. Those factory mags are hard and have sharp corners on the base that will cut your hand when you go to slam in a mag. I tried to have mine drilled for base pads, but the local gunsmith didn't have strong enough drill bits. He barely put a divot in one mag while breaking several bits.

Hope it helps.
