Kicking and screaming into the 21st century

Having been a long time revolver guy, I have always been a little lacking of trust in automatics. For the last couple of years I have been carrying 2 revolvers due to the increases of gang activity making me think 6 shots might not be enough.

About 2 months ago I borrowed an automatic, and I actually shot it better than my revolver, I think mostly due to the better sights. Then I got to thinking, I'm already carrying 2 guns, so why not carry automatics instead. If I was to get a double feed, just grab the second gun.

Sooo, get ready, gasp, I bought a Glock 19 and a Glock 26. now I have 27 shots instead of 11 in my guns. I have been shooting these guns for about a month now and am actually shooting better with these than I could with my revolvers. I tried a Glock when they first came out and hated it. Now, I wonder why. Granted, it has the visual appeal and pride of ownership of a cheese grater. But, like a quality cheese grater, it is a damn fine tool for the intended purpose.

I guess getting set in your ways isn't all that good of a thing. Wonder whats next, will I be trading my Rossi 92 for an ar-15?

WAIT! Don't DO IT!

What is your Rossi M1892 lever action chambered for? You might wanna leave things be, with that part of your gear. For one thing, a lever-action carbine in a vehicle is less likely to alarm the constabulary, if seen.

More seriously, the ergonomics of the Gen4 Glocks are much improved over the Gen 1's & Gen 2's. And I have to imagine the lighter weight helps if you're carrying two of them, too.

One of the main reasons I used to hate revolvers was that it was a long time before I'd found one with decent sights. With that said, though, I love the sights on my GP-100 Wiley Clapp (though I keep it primarily for home defense rather than carry).

This is funny because I've always sort of thought of revolvers as 'archaic' and wondered "why in god's name does anyone actually use these things? And right now I'm overly focused (nice way of saying "consumed with") getting a 629 of some sort.

I'm happy to hear you've found a new world of shooting, and that it's working out well. I personally have not seen the legendary reliability of revolvers--in fact I've seen the ultra reliable Glock and the ultra reliable revolver fail at IDPA matches in about the same proportion.

In my very simplistic view of the world, it comes down to "when it fails, how long to get back into action?". Nothing else much matters.

I'm still going to buy a revolver as soon as I find The One. Why? Because there's no auto pistol that I want that fires 44 Mag. Any other more rational reason? Nope.

What's "kicking and screaming" for me is that I've actually been thinking of carrying a revolver (for around-the-house-carry). If you can appreciate that, then I can appreciate your situation. You've probably thought "nasty jam-prone pieces of s&^t", and I've thought "heavy, fat, slow 6-round antiques".

All I know for sure is there's no auto pistol cartridge (including my beloved 10mm Auto) that can come close to 44 Mag in the ordnance department, heavy and fat isn't always a bad thing, and 'slow' is relative. I'm going for it.

Get a chance, shoot a Glock 29. Possibly the most magnificent piece of ugly plastic crap ever manufactured. I don't leave home without it, and I have my choice of any gun I want.
