I am looking at doing some mountain hunting in Alaska and I have been told by a local gunsmith that I should KG Coat my gun, especially if a part of it is reflective. I don't know a whole lot about it or the process.
It seems like a decent idea to me, especially if I get something like a polished stainless barrel in which it will catch the sun. He told me that it would do extremely well against the sun and would keep a blued gun from rusting. The only issue is that he flat out told me it would wear off at places like the bolt. If it wears out there, won't it do the same on the exterior if I'm scraping rocks and trees?
It looks like it has pros and cons, just trying to get some more information and opinions on the matter. I don't want to pay for something that isn't going to do me any good in the end. (Of course, this gunsmith also told me I should do it to my prized TC Encore 45-70 which I custom built in Stainless w/ Walnut stocks)...
Thanks again guys,
