Kentucky Glove Box Carry Update

Today, Governor Steve Beshear signed into law House Bill 313 that will allow carry in any vehicle installed compartment. The previous law only allowed for glove box carry.

From the NRA:

House Bill 313, sponsored by state Representative Will Coursey (D-6), will allow an individual to carry a loaded or unloaded firearm in an enclosed compartment originally installed by the manufacturer in a motor vehicle. The firearm will not be considered a concealed firearm under state law and the occupant will not need a concealed carry permit to transport a firearm in this manner. Previous law required a firearm to be stored in a glove compartment even though some vehicles do not come with one factory-installed.

The actual wording of Houes Bill 313 is:

Amend KRS 527.020, relating to carrying concealed deadly weapons, to permit the director of the Division of Law Enforcement and conservation officers of the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to carry concealed deadly weapons; expand locations where a loaded or unloaded firearm or other deadly weapon may be carried in a motor vehicle to include any container, compartment, or storage space originally installed in the motor vehicle by its manufacturer; exempt persons prohibited from possessing firearms by law from being permitted to have a firearm in a motor vehicle.

It's not a major victory but it is still a pro-gun move. Just thought I'd pass it along.

For a couple or three decades we've been losing the RKBA incrementally, one small step after another.

That's how we'll win it back. This is one small step, one increment, but it's one small step in the right direction.
