Actually had a question on the general condition of Kel-Tec
slides bluing.
My customer complained about the rusting on the bluing and wanted a Duracoated slide.
Of course I had no problem with that request.
Just wondering if other gun guys had issues with Kel-Tec finish as my experence is only in refinishing and adjusting these guns as I don't personally own one.

Kel-Tec

I've been carrying mine is a pocket holster daily for about 6 years and have had zero problems with the finish coming off. It is the blued model.
some of the newer ones seem to be a liitle cheaper made than mine(after side to side comparison)

Of course bluing rusts. It is rust. It needs to be kept oiled or waxed to keep it from oxidizing, rusting, or fading.

And I think your customer would be better served with GunKote on the gun, not DuraCoat. DuraCoat goes on fairly thick, Gunkote is very thin. DuraCoat will interfere with normal operation becasue it adds quite a bit dimensionally, GunKote is less than .001" thick if properly applied.

Thanks for your input.
The customer requested Duracoat so that what he got. I said I could do Gunkote , reblue, nickel, parkerizied, or Teflon .

I was in the back of a mini van full of kids on a road trip when a kid spilled a can of soda pop on my lap.

I was carrying a Kel-Tec P11 in a smart carry holster over my junk.

The pistol and I were drenched, but I could not take the gun out for a couple hours.

The slide rusted, but I sanded off the rust, put some cold blue on it, a little oil over that, and it has been fine ever since.
