Kel-Tec Problems

I've had my P11 for a year or so, and have had no problems with it other than an occassional stovepipe. Well today it started jamming a lot, and eventually broke altogether. I couldn't even rack the slide or field strip it to see what went wrong.

Has anyone had this happen to them? If so, what was wrong? Furthermore, how is Kel-Tec factory service and how fast is it? I remember hearing good things about their customer service. I hope I remember right.

I carried (concealed) a P-11 off and on for two years before finally trading it in on another gun.

It was reliable, accurate, and light. I just happened on a small gun that I shot better (a Star Firestar Plus.)

Call Kel-Tec. They're service reputation is peerless, and turnaround time is very, very quick.

Stovepiping with a P-11 is "usually" operating error, but the problem you describe points to something else.

Kel-Tec has the best customer service of any firearms company I've ever experienced.

They just are the best, and will do anything to make their product right for their customers.

What, exactly, is your pistol doing?

And what ammo were you using? Did you eventually clear it of the jam?

I was in Cocoa, FL on vacation a couple of weeks ago. I called up KelTec and asked to tour the factory and they said come on over. I had a looksee (it's small but neat) and talked to the head gunsmith and the P32 gunsmith. I told them about a problem i was having with the gun and they worked on it. Of course, it was nice that i was THERE, but you can probably get yours fixed by just sending it in. Give them a call. The folks there are really nice. :)

The only time I had a similar problem (couldn't rack the slide or field strip) was with a different pistol. In my case, it was Wolf ammo getting stuck in the chamber.

To get the pistol field-stripped, I had to manually push in on the extractor to get it to release the stuck casing. With that out of the way, I could field-strip the pistol normally. In the case of the P-11, you may be able to release the extractor by pushing on the back end of the extractor (the end farthest from the cartridge) with some objust strong enough to move the extractor and thin enough not to hang up on the frame. Or you may be able to (gently) lift the extractor off from the cartridge end. If that's the problem.

In my case, the fix was to stop using Wolf ammo (steel cased & lacquered).
