Kel-Tec P32 .22LR conversion - feasability?

I love my P32, but I can shoot my Glock 19 for about half as much. I'd shoot my P32 a lot more if it was able to run off of 22LR ammo - it would make for super-cheap practice. I wonder if the P32 design would allow a barrel/slide/mag conversion for 22LR? Kel-Tec would be in the money if it could develop one, I figure, seeing as how popular the P32s are.

Steve, for those of us who are not reloaders, best price I've seen on .32ACP is around $150 per thousand ($7.50 a box). .22LR is about $18 per thousand.

I'd be interested, but I don't see Kel-Tec doing it.

As already noted, the P-32 is a locked breech design. Any .22 capability for it would mean a new top end. There's not likely to be enough market for that to justify its use.

(A .22 top end for the P-11 might have a market.)

Either way, though, its not a simple conversion.

way off!

i don't know where you are getting those prices,i just checked the sight and the 2 kinds of .32 (FN surplus and S&B) are both 140.00 per 1000 + delivery.most of the ammo prices there can be beat most easily.

I've also bought the surplus FN .32 ACP ammo for about $80/1,000 plus shipping, but I haven't seen it at that price for awhile (I stocked up over a year ago). I agree that a .22 conversion (or version) of the P32 would be fun, but I also doubt that we'll see it. I don't think people want to shoot the P32 enough to justify it - I shot mine quite a bit when I first got it, but now I just shoot a magazine or two now and then. It isn't the type of gun most people would want to put hundreds of rounds through at a session.

I STRONGLY disagree that there would be a market for one... Taurus and Beretta probably would too. Think of all the companies who already make .22 conversions for Glocks, 1911's, AR-15's, AK47's...........

There are LOTS of people (my father is one) who love .22's with a passion. Almost every pistol or rifle he owns also has a companion .22 version sitting next to it. Dad even has a full sized S&W revolver built off of a .44 magnum frame with a 6" barrel that's .22 magnum. He carried a Taurus PT22 in his pocket all the time. Not for protection, but just because he never knew when he might be somewhere he could rattle off a few rounds at a tin can.

If Kel-Tec made a $100 conversion, or even a $200 complete pistol in .22 the size of the P32, I'd buy one, and I'm sure lots of other folks would too. This is the third time I've seen a post like this recently (not all on TFL).

And I don't care HOW cheap .32 ammo is, I can buy 550 rounds of .22 at Wallyworld for $8.99 plus tax.

Why not just buy an inexpensive .22?

You'd arguably end up with a more accurate, more reliable gun...

(The longer sight radius alone would aid the shootability of the gun.)

(Don't get me wrong: I think the P-32 is the BEST .32 around.)

The Taurus and Beretta guns of a similar size already come in a .22 variant, so there's not much likelihood of a .22 kit for them.

That said, I still think that a .22 adapter for the P-11 would sell. That's one gun that requires a lot of practice, and a .22 kit would let you practice inexpensively.

The P-32 doesn't seem to take as much getting used to...

I picked up a used Beretta 21A in .22 LR. It feels and shoots very similarly to the P32. I've seen them for less than $200. Nice little guns.

Regards.
