Kel-Tec P11 "Restricted" 12-Round Magazines?

I read somewhere that police officers can buy flush-fitting 12-round magazines for the Kel-Tec P11 9mm. That surprised me. I always thought they did pretty well to get 10-rounds into that little pistol. Of course, I know you can use extended magazines that stick out the bottom (like S&W high-caps), but I was surprised to hear that there are flush-fitting 12-rounders. Has anyone heard of or seen these? It seems like if they had that much extra space, they could get 10 rather than just 9 rounds of .40 into the P40. I think the same source said that the P40 uses the same magazine, so maybe that's how they figured you could get 12 9mms in. Would that be legal (using P40 mags in a P11 to get 12-round capacity)?

I heard the part about getting 12 rounds into a 9 round .40 mag. Haven't tried it, though. Not sure of the legality.

I've heard that certain pre-ban S&W 9mm hi-caps will fit the P11, but they do hang out the bottom. May be a good option for your spare carry mag.

As someone noted, these special mags may be a variation on the .40 cal mag.

You can buy a small spacer and use SW 69 Series mags for 12 or 13 rounds. Extends about 1/2 farther than normal, but no farther than the optional grip extension. You can also use SW 59 series mags for 15 round capacity, and that extends about an inch. Again, with the plastic spacer, it really just gives you a better grip. I use both when I carry the P-11.

(In recent months I've been carrying a Star Firestar Plus [alloy frame]; its a lot easier to shoot than the P-11, not much bigger, and about 8 oz. heavier. I can live with that extra weight.)

I took out a Keltec P11 stock 10 round magazine, and there's no way you put 12 rounds into that size and get it to feed properly, I think this is just a rumor. In any case, the difference between 10+1 and 12+1 isn't going to be significant in 99.99% of the defensive encounters you might have.

I think I am the one that started that rumor, and I am surprised to find that I am the first to discover this.

Here is the deal:

My KelTec P11 9mm came brand new with a .40 caliber mag. I have no idea why, but I never knew it was a .40 caliber mag, I just used it (do you ever inspect the mag that comes with your new gun? I don't, I just use it).
So, I loaded up the mag, and lo and behold, it holds 12 roundsof 9mm!!!
So, I look at the mag carefully and see that for some reason they gave me a .40 caliber mag (the standard mag for the Kel Tec P40).
So, anyway, it feeds flawlessly, is %100 reliable, and holds 12 + 1 9mm rounds in a flush fit mag.
It is the mag that came with the gun, so I use it in good faith.
To answer all the usual questions: YES, it is flush fit, YES, it feeds %100 reliably, YES, it holds 12 + 1 rounds of 9mm, No, it does not seem to matter that it is made for the .40, it still feeds great. I have two of the .40 mags and they both work just as well, so I do not believe it is a fluke.
That should answer all the questions, let me know if there are more.
As I said, mine came with the gun so I feel justified and safe in using it in good faith. If you want to try it yourself, go buy a KelTec P40 .40 caliber mag and load it up. You will instantly have 12+1 rounds of 9mm flushfit in your P11.

Went out and bought a p-40 mag. Yep, it does work in a P-11, flawlessly. Shot a box with no problems. Thanks.

But I could only get 11 in it, not 12. How did you do 12??

Strange, because I have another KelTec .40 mag that I bought to try it out too, and it also holds 12 rounds of 9mm very comfortably.
Perhaps your spring is still new and needs to be broken in?

Someone brought this up on the KTOG list and the moderator immediately forbade all discussion of this taboo subject, claiming that it was highly illegal, and even thinking about such an act would be criminal behavior. Maybe I am exaggerating a little.

Perhaps I shall buy a few p-40 mags in anticipation of purchasing a P-40. I shall try my best to keep them away from my P-11 in the meanwhile, pending a definitive legal opinion. LOL.
