Kel-tec P11 or P40 in Stainless? Chrome?

I'm thinking of getting a P11 or a P40, and I'd want the maximum in rust and scratch resistance available. I see many references to stainless steel P11s, but I don't think Kel-tec lists them any more, correct? Has the hard chrome replaced stainless? Is it as good or better? I recently got a P32 with the hard chrome upgrade, and it looks very nice, but I can't say how durable it will turn out to be.

Kel-Tec no longer makes a Stainless version. There were problems with cracks in the slide (in areas where it affected appearance, not function.) They now offer the Hard Chrome version in its place.

The Hard Chrome will probably be MORE durable than the stainless, and certainly more rust resistant.

(Mine is hard-chromed. It looks like a dull stainless. I thought it was stainless for quite a while, until I read the legend on the box.)

I have two stainless P-11s.

One has a replacement slide due to a crack that appeared on the underside near the roll pin that holds the extractor in place. It never grew beyond about 1/16th of an inch, but Kel-Tec offered the free replacement, so...

The slides I currently have are both fine. and the pistols are excellent.

If you join the kel-tec owners group website, a gunsmith that moderates the site will nickel plate your blue or parkerized kel-tecs for $25. I just sent my p-32/p-11 slides to him. I have read very good things about his work. You just send the slide so you can send it regular mail. His address is www.gunsmith.fuselier.com
If haven't been to the kel-tec owners group website yet, do so. It is very informative, particularly the "tecworks" section. join up on the eGroups message posting site to talk to the kel-tec experts. www.ktog.org
good luck.

I have two P11's, one in hard chrome and one blued. I'd go for the hard chrome finish, since it's more rust resistant for carry.

I just bought a hard chromed almost NIB p11 for $208 out the door. I was happy to find it for such a great price, with a nickel plated mag as well.
