Kel-Tec P-32: New & Improved, or Still Troublesome?

From these forums (and Oleg Volk's well-written review) I gather that early P-32's were sometimes troublesome with a limited service life, but that new ones - with modifications to the slide and frame - seem to work better.

So . . . how is the reliability of YOUR P-32, and if I don't have an old one nearby for comparison, how do I tell if the dealer is selling a "new" version or old inventory?

Be assured even if you have a problem with a used or new Kel-Tec product I can testify from personal experience that their service department is second to none. There is plenty of testamony at this and other web sights confirming this. I have often heard of people sending their pistol back for refinishing ect. and Kel-Tec will replace parts and perform "extras" at no charge. Right now they will hard chrome a Kel-tec pistol for only $20 ! And they look sharp! My gun dealer had his chromed and showed it to me. Their may be other gun companies that provide this high degree of service but I don't know their name.:)

I had a problem with the extractor and Kel-Tec repaired it in less than a week. Never had a problem since. I bought mine about 4 months ago. A friend of mine bought his about 16 months ago and has not had a single problem.

Mine is a serial number in the 27XXX range

Had it hard chromed for $20. Then I sent it back and they rebarrelled it for free in about five days. Now it shoots exactly to point of aim and is REEliable.

REEEgards.

I have 2 of them, 8XXX and 10XXX. Both are perfectly reliable. The very newest ones are around 73XXX+.

Some problems with P-32s are attributable to the pistol and some to operator error - limpwristing and lack of proper lubrication. A small, light pistol must be held firmly when fired. P-32s need proper lubrication as well - light grease on the slide rails and hammer/slide interface and oil elsewhere per Goldenloki's website:

http://www.goldenloki.com/guns/keltec/care2.htm

I don't believe they really have a very limited service life if properly cared for. This is not a gun that you would put through a 15,000 round toture test though. I have read of many who have 3 - 5,000 rounds and still going strong.

They certainly are not the quality of a Glock or SIG at the price they are sold for. Most are reliable out of the box, some need attention from the owner (see "Reliability Preparation" at Golden Loki's site) or a trip to the factory to be 100% reliable.

HankB - I noticed that you are in the Austin area. If you want to get a P-32, I can tell you where to get a new blue one for $194 or the chrome version for $219.
