Kel-Tec P-32 Metal Guide Rod??

Kentucky Rifle

I just read on another forum that metal guide rods are available from Kel-Tec for the P-32. Many times during cleaning I've thought that a metal recoil rod would be better. Has anyone else heard of this?

I've yet to hear of a plastic guide rod failing in ANY gun. When the manufacturer uses plastic, its generally because plastic will do the job and is lighter than metal. (It may sometimes be cheaper than metal, but not always.)

That said, some of the guys have fashioned metal ones for the P-32 out of nails. Cut and polished.

(I don't remember, offhand, which size nail, but it apparently works pretty well.)

If the guide rod on the P-32 holds up anything like the ones in the P-11 don`t be too quick to change it. When my P-11 had about 2500rds. through it I figured I`d better get a new recoil spring for it. Keltec sent me one free of charge with a new plastic guide rod. When I went to change them I got the rods mixed up and try as I might I couldn`t tell which one was the new and which was the old. There`s simply no wear. When I compared the springs I found that the old one actually seemed a tiny bit stiffer than the new one so I put the new one away for a spare. Now after 4000+ total rds. the spring in the gun is still slightly stiffer than the new one andthe guide rod still shows no wear at all. If it ain`t broke..... :) Marcus
