Kel-Tec P-32 Jams

After 3 months of anxious waiting and anticipation I took delivery of a new P-32. With the dealer having a range on premise, and this gun rightfully licensed and registered to me I proceed to check it out. Loading 2 magazines I shoot them in rapid succession. I was impressed and delighted. Then on the 3rd magazinefull, it happend. The P-32 refused to eject and chamber a fresh round.
Seeking the dealers advise we cleaned and lubed this pistol and switched ammo. The session had started with hardball, and after the cleaning we went with the Federal Hydra Shok Hollow Points. Three rounds latter the problem starts again. Through out the next 25 rounds or so we could not get this gun to shoot more than a round or two before jamming.
Finally, disguested, I decided to call it a day and attempted to release the slide into battery. It was looked solid. It don't want to move. Changed magazines, loaded a magazine, no luck the thing don't want to close.
Looking carefully I used a finger to move the ejector notice it wiggled and thus moving it ( ejector) the slide moves forward into battery.
Having ownd many many handguns over the past 25 years I never, ever had one that failed so miserably out of the box.
The dealer says he will return the gun back to the factory and most likely they will replace the gun. I hope so, my intentions are never to accept the gun and have the dealer remove it from my license. You see I don't longer feel comfortable staking my life on this light weight wonder.

Anyone have any thoughts on this matter? Should I give this gun a second chance or just replace my aging Seecamp 32 with a newer version that will shoot all 32 acp ammo ?

Sorry to hear about your dilemma. If it were me, I would give the factory a chance to make it right. I really like my P-32 and it never had to go back, but their customer service on my P-11 has been great.
Sorry yours did not work out so far.

And if you hear from my Louise, won't you tell her I love her so?

i agree, you should give it another chance, P-32 is a great gun. i own 2 of them. one required a little fluffing & buffing to work out few kinks. see the kel-tec owners group website for details. www.ktog.org
i owned a seecamp that jammed multiple times right out of the box. does that mean the seecamp is a piece of junk? of course not. not every gun is going to be 100% right from the start. the basic design is sound and there are many, many satisfied owners. besides, their customer service is great if you have a problem. you certainly can't say that about seecamp.
i'm curious as to where you live that you have to have a license and register all of your guns? no such thing in texas.

Tony,
I understand your frustration. It had to be a big letdown to have your P-32 fail like that. Especially after reading all the posts about how great they are. Give Kel-Tec a chance to make it right, I bet they will. As for my P-32...It's never had a malfunction of any type. Hydra-Shoks are what I keep it loaded with. I'm sure that yours can be made as reliable also.

Good luck (Post what happens)

I'm not having jams, but am having misfires, and sometimes the slide does not stay back after the last round is fired. On a misfire, I will rack the slide, and the next round will fire correctly. I haven't put many rounds through it yet, but hope these problems go away. I think it has been lubed correctly, any ideas out there?

I, too, had problems with my P-32. Occasional failures to feed - even with hardball - and light firing pin strikes.

Sent it back to the factory and the gunsmith there said that when I got it back it'd be "200% reliable". Happy to report that he was right. I've now got maybe 600 rounds through it - both Sellier and Bellot and FN ammo - it's totally reliable.

Kel-Tec seems to let some pistols out of the factory that don't work right but they will fix them, and fix them right - no questions asked.

btw, that FN ammo is good stuff, not too hot but cheap. The S&B ammo seems to be the hottest round available.

You might want to check out 'GoldenLoki's' website on how to tune up your P-32. Great info, easy to do. It's at:

He's also got good chrono info at that site for the .32 ACP.

I got mine last week and ran 3 boxes of Federal and Winchester FMJ through it yesterday with no problems.
I kinda like it alot, though not having sights is something you have to get used too.
For grins and giggles, I always bring plastic 2 liter pop and milk jugs, filled full of water along to the little range I shoot at.
I shot a coke 2 liter with the .32,(about 10 yards) it sat there for a few seconds, then fell over.
In comparison, I also popped one with my
Sig220, used Hydrashok230. Major difference.
Instant pop bottle falling over and water leakage.
We are in the middle of a drought here, and this helps water the range.

I live in NY, Westchester County. This is a suburb of NYC. Here the County Judge determines weather you can have a permit or not. It is at his discretion. Once you have a permit you can "Amend" it . That is is you go to your local gun shop. Purchase (usually) pay in full for the gun. He gives you a receipt with the serial numbers, than you file for an ammendment. Submit forms in duplicate pay a fee of $3.00 and wait....in about 3-6 months you are notifyed that your new permit is ready. Appear before the county clerk in person, surrender your old permit and the will give you a new one with the latest added guns. You will also receive a "Purchase Order" signed and sealed by the court judge. This you must surrunder to the gun dealer. Show him your new permit with the new gun listed on it file the federal forms and you are on your way. Real fun ha... By the way the license is a credit card size piece of plastic that has space on it for 6 guns. I've currently got 24 and thus they gave me six (6) that right 6 licenses showing the ID numbers of all my guns. Got to have them in your person all the time.

Surprise, surprise!! Personally, I haven't yet seen one that worked 100% out of the box. However, a little TLC (Fluff & Buff) will usually get it running 100%. Check out the KTOG list for some very useful tips. Once you get it running right, it's a great little gun!
