Kel-Tec P-11 Look-Alikes : experiences?

My next-door dealer just got two new guns in. They are almost exact copies of the Kel-Tec P-11.

One is a Standard Arms 9mm. Its slide finish is pretty crappy, but its frame is a little nicer, with finger grooves. It breaks down just like a P-11, and uses the same Mec-Gar 10 round mags. It looks to be the same size or smaller than the P-11, and its trigger is a little lighter and breaks a lot earlier (I'm tempted to say better). It's 179$.

The other is a Talon 380 in chrome. It seems a lot better in quality than the Standard Arms. The slide is finished very well, and it has high-profile three dot sights and a chamber loaded indicator. The slide is a bit beefier than the P-11, and the whole gun looks to be a bit bigger as well. The mag is chrome, marked with the Talon logo, and is different than the Mec-Gar mags of Kel-Tec and Standard Arms. Breakdown is exactly like the Kel-Tec's, again. The trigger is really heavy, as heavy and long as the Kel-Tec's if not more (I'm tempted to day worse). It's 149$.

Both of these guns have lifetime warranties. The Talon also comes in 9mm and is the same price.

Along with the Taurus P-11 look-alikes, have you guys ever shot any of these guns? My fiancee's father is looking for a decent backup gun, and these are readily available for a good price. However, I know they're not Kel-Tecs. Can you guys tell me anything about them?

Thanks!

The other is a Talon 380

I just got a Taurus P111 millenium and so far I am very pleased with it. I wanted the Kel-Tec P-11 but the shop I like to do business with had just sold their last one. The Taurus is a little more expensive (not much) but from what I read on here, there is about the same amount of gripes for the Kel-Tec as there is for the Taurus and it seems like the majority of them are about the trigger pull. My Taurus has a gritty hard trigger but I can hit a gallon milk jug at 40 feet 9 times out of 10. :)

I was pretty impressed with my Kel-Tec, too. I found I could shoot a small group at 30' with little effort. But, if you ever use it in a real-world situation where you have to use that gun to protect yourself, you'll probably not have a lot of time to aim or even think about what you're doing. And its sure going to be hard to "squeeze" that trigger smoothly.

If you can, try your gun in an IDPA match (or similar effort). I suspect that if you do, you'll be amazed and appalled at how hard it is to shoot it well, and hit what you're aiming at.

(I've won several small, local IDPA club matches in recent months (10-15 shooters). Then I tried my P-11. Came in fourth or fifth. The following month I tried a Star Firestar Plus, which is heavier but similar in size, and had the best overall time of the match. It is now my concealed carry gun. The difference is its single-action with a nice trigger, and you carry it cocked and locked.)

My Kel-Tec is now in the back of the gunsafe. This is despite the fact that it is a small, light, durable, reliable and easily concealable gun. These traits hold true for the Taurus, too. Mine is even very accurate.

But the time needed to develop proficiency with this type of gun is just more than I'm willing to invest. You may eventually find that your Taurus is similar.
