Kel-Tec P-11 Ammo Question

As I've mentioned a number of times, I have been having occassional Failures to Eject with my new P-11. I had 2 FTE in 300 rounds. Well this weekend a couple of friends and I took our Kel-Tec's to the range for some target practice. I put another 50 rounds of Remington UMC through the P-11 with two FTE. I know I should have tried another brand of ammo by now, but I keep picking up the cheap stuff for practice. During this range session I casually mentioned the strange appearance of my primer strikes to my friend. The best way I can describe it is by comparing it to a ripple caused by dropping a stone in water. I have the primary primer dent surrounded by a elevated circular ridge. Outside of this ridge the rest of the primer looks normal. I've noticed this strange mark on my spent casings everytime I've shot the P-11. I didn't give it much thought and assumed that it was caused by the P-11. Well, this friend contacted a gunsmith friend of his who feels that this mark is being caused by the UMC being overloaded. He also stated that this could cause my failures to eject by expanding the cases more than usual causing the ejector to fail to extract. Has anyone heard of this or noticed this with Remington UMC or the P-11? I would appreciate hearing your opinions of this. Thanks.

All my primers look the same like yours. I had failure to eject also and polished the chamber to remedy it.
Inspect your chamber for toolmarks and call Kel-tec's customer service if you see any.

I dont think its the ammo I think it is probably the gun.. I would send it to the factory and explain whats been happening and get them to correct the prob.. The experience I have had with the P-11 is when its working properly it should NOT be ammo sensitive I have shot countless types of ammo through my P-11 when I had it inclusing Indian Military surplus ammo and never had a problem with it so I am thinking that something is obvously wrong with the your gun for it being so sensitive to ammo..besides the situation you described about the marks on the primers sounds like more a prob with firing pin rather than the ammo.

Thanks for the responses. I dropped my P-11 off at the dealers on Thursday to have it sent back to the factory. I like the P-11 overall and plan to keep it as long as this problem is remedied. It doesn't fail to extract that often, but it does happen consistently with 1 to 3 failures per hundred rounds. I'm interested to see how long it takes to get the gun back, after hearing all of the glowing reports on Kel-Tec service. I will probably call to see if I can speak with one of the gunsmiths directly to better explain the primer indents and the other problem. I don't think the dealer took very much information when I dropped the gun off.

I bet it's the ammo

Too late you sent it back. But think about it -- how would a hammer strike cause unexpected results in the cartridge metal?

Maybe it should have been sent back, but that ammo (even though it's ball, if I recall) was weird. P11s are as reliable as ANY of the big name guns (I'll exclude P7s and some sigs here).

By the way if you dont have the belt clip go buy one. NO holster bulge - it's the greatest thing since the polio vacine.

I`d bet on the ammo too. Sounds like bulged primers from overpressure to me (but what to I know? :) ). I also agree about the belt clip, since I put it on mine my P-11 holsters haven`t left the drawer once and I carry the P-11 a LOT. Marcus
