kel-tec 32 slide comes off

Oh boy, I was out at the range today. Working with my two carry guns. While practicing front sight acquisition with my kel-tec 32, about 20 rds into it, I fired a round and looked on the ground and the slide came off. It looked like the pin worked loose a little and the slide practically fell of in front of me. Initial inspection, mag was still in, with live ammo. Immediately removed. Reached over to pick up slide and inspected and found a round in the barrel. Guide pin and spring are missing....gone somewhere. However the barrel is wedged, like there is pressure on the bullet. Not sure if the round is live or not. Either I reinstall the slide to try to remove the round or take to a smithy for a more professional removal. Either way its going back to kel-tec for through inspection

looking for input on repair, not opinions on firearm.

Take the extractor off the side if it is a second gen and the barrel should be free to move to allow you to get the round out. As long as you don't strike the primer it should be safe. The KT's are good little guns for what they are, but they are very lightly built and sometimes have problems. This is a fairly common problem where the pin will work itself out due to losing tension on the retaining spring

thank you eng208. I was able to remove the live round. (without discharge). Called Kel-Tec today. they were very helpful. they are sending out new parts and pins at n/c. They said if it happens again to send it in to them.

I saw a neat idea (on the K-T board IIRC). The poster cut a screwdriver slot into the taketown pin, then deepened the slots where the spring engages the pin, so that when the pins was turned 1/4 turn, the srpoing legs could fall into the deepened slots and there was no way the takedown pin could come out. To remove, turn 1/4 turn so spring legs were now in the normal-depth slot, and remove as normal.

Never got to try it, but it was a well-thought-out solution..

I don't know ... 20 rounds into a gunfight with a P-32 ... when the slide comes off, I'd think of that as more of a design feature rather than a failure ... it is telling you in no uncertain terms "Get your butt out of Dodge!" :D
