Keep the Sig 226 or trade it for the 228?

I bought the 226 9mm about 9mos ago when the 228's were not readily available. But, at the time I wanted the 228. Now I'm back to wanting the 228 and can't afford to just go out and buy it right now. So, do I trade in the 226?

Its' got 534rds through it and the slide and frame are in perfect shape. It was detail cleaned (I'm somewhat anal about cleaning guns) after every range trip with no more than 100rds per visit. What do you think I'll get for it? The 228 typically run $100-$125 less than the 226. Do you think I can get an even trade?

They are both excellent guns. You need to decide which you like better. I had both, but the smaller grip of the 228 did not feel as good in my hands as the 226 and I don't have large hands. I recently sold my 228 and will keep my 226. You can't go wrong with either. It's your personal opinion that counts.

Greeting's Folk's;

Like John, and so many other's I had both the P226 and the
P228. After finally acquiring the P228, and shooting and
comparing both; I found that I did not like the European
style grip of the P226. Both guns are excellent, quality
made weapons.:D My P226 was two-toned with factory
SigLite night sight's, as made by Trijicon. But, still the
no-frills all blue, standard P228 suited my need's and
want's better; thus I ended up parting ways with the
P226. The P226 had less than 300 rounds fired,
and my original cost was $629.95 + tax, in November
of 1995. It came with 1- factory preban magazine,
lockable plastic case, and all manual's and paperwork.
I sold it for $500.00, to the original dealer that I had
bought it from.:barf: But, I still have the P228 and
occassionally use it for CCW purpose's. My favorite
Sig and #1 carry piece is the P220, in .45ACP; as you
might have imagned from reading all my post; on this
very fine firearm.

**Another reason for holding onto the P220 and the
P228 (with two hi-cap's), is the fact that they were
both made and assembled in West Germany; whereas
the P226 was simply stamped Germany.

DON'T DO IT! RESIST THE URGE! NEVER SELL A GUN!!!!!!!

They are both fine sidearms. Why not keep the P-226 and revel in its magnificance while saving up your money for the P228? The 226 is a classic and you will be sorry someday if you let it go. Similiarly, the 228 is a wonderful carry piece. Be decadant - get them both.

Regards,

I will tell you outright that I would never sell a good, functioning gun because I know I'd regret it later. With that said, it is no surprise that I advise you to keep that P226 instead of selling it off. Even if you do sell it, you will not get near what you paid, unless you got one heck of a good deal or you kept it unfired (which you didn't). Best bet is to keep the gun and save for the 228. Also, if you can, put a 228 on layaway and pay it off gradually. That way, you know the gun will be there for you.

JMO and it's worht what you paid for it.
