Kasich signs expanded carry bill in Ohio

I am very glad that Govenor Kasich signed the bill that expands where Ohioans can conceal carry. I like that persons with a valid CCW permit can carry on campus if the school allows it. And I especially like that now there is no legal grounds to fire you if you secure your handgun in your car while you're at work.

Indeed. I cannot wait until the law takes effect. My boss has a company wide no guns policy. I like to have my CCW with me on the way there and the way home at least. Never know when you'll have to stop at Wally World on the way home. And the one on my way is a little sketchy. Way to go Ohio.

Some staunch libertarians hate the parking lot protection because it eats in to property rights but I find the argument both ways to be quite compelling.

This bill is crumbs the Republican legislature and governor threw to us. The final iteration was a combination of two bills that were introduced two years ago. One of them, as originally written, would have removed virtually all government buildings, houses of worship (unless they chose to post no carry signs) from the prohibited areas list. Earlier this year, that bill was gutted, then was allowed to sit until the very end of the two year session, where amendments were added and taken away, back and forth between the two chambers, until we wound up with the meager improvements of SB199.

With all the supposed pro-gun politicians in the majority, we should have gotten a lot better a lot sooner.

Maybe we'll get another miniscule improvement after another 2 years.

You're right about that. You're not going to see sweeping pro-gun laws being enacted, the tide is turning, but it took decades to get to here and it's going to take years longer to see further improvements.

The country did not turn conservative on Election Day. Don't expect anything out of SCOTUS for two years. Be glad you're not on the coast, where a couple of cities decide the rights of the entire state.
