Kansas Senate Prayer

John/az2

New member
When Pastor Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas
Senate, everyone was expecting the usual politically correct
generalities.

But, what they heard instead was a stirring prayer, passionately calling
our country to repentance and righteousness. The response was immediate;
a number of legislators walked out during the prayer. In six short
weeks, Central Christian Church logged more than 5,000 phone calls, with
only 47 of those calls responding negatively. Commentator Paul Harvey
aired the prayer on the radio and received a larger response to this
program than any other program he has ever aired. Central Christian
Church is now receiving international requests for copies of this
prayer from India, Africa and Korea. Pastor Joe's prayer is reprinted
here as an encouragement and challenge for each of us to stand for the
truth of the Gospel whenever the Lord gives us the opportunity.

"Heavenly Father, we come before You today to ask Your forgiveness
and seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe on
those who call evil good,' but that's exactly what we have done. We
have lost our spiritual equilibrium and inverted our values. We confess
that:
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it
pluralism.
We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism.
We have endorsed perversion and called it an alternative
lifestyle.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have neglected the needy and called it self-preservation.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it Building
self-esteem.
We have abused power and called it political savvy.
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, O God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every
sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been
sent here by the people of Kansas, and who have been ordained by You to
govern this great state. Grant them the wisdom to rule, and may their
decisions direct us to the center of Your will. I ask it in the name of
Your Son, the Living Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen."

"Just because something is popular, does not make it right."

It is about time that someone stands up and tell the truth. Like me most americans don't want to give all their rights away, move to the city, disrepect GOD, and turn Gay, which seems to be the govts. will for us.

The prayer touches on so many topics that it opens us up for another divisive shouting match about values. I commend the man for his convictions, but would like to suggest, respectfully, that we keep religion out of RKBA issue, unless pertinent to specific issues.

I have already made my error in judgement in bringing up Cooper's values: that was irrelevant for our purposes and served only to divide us. Don't repeat my errors.

I would commend and endorse statements that uphold, praise and endorse Christian values. I am not Christian, but consider the faith to be a good thing. I am concerned that we will repuse our allies who may be of other faiths or persuasions or lifestyles and who do not infringe on our lives.

To sum this up: to state your faith and credo and ethics is good. To add disparaging remarks about other faiths or ways of life that include fellow TFL members is counter-productive. Thank you.

Thanks CR..

I ask the members to PLEASE take the spirit of Pastor Wright's prayer as that of a man of integrity and honor and not as an endorsement of any particular religion, or that any particular religion is "more" than any other.
Membership or TFL (that I do know of) comprises Christians, Jews, Mormons, Buddists, lapsed Catholics, Agnostics and Atheists....all are moral people with integrity and honor...Capishe?

cornered rat and DC-
Great sentiments and words, both. Let me add my endorsement: while the Pastor's *words* may be Christian and conservative, his *message* was, I believe, an appeal to honor and integrity, *as he sees it*. Stay true to those values and don't get hung up in the Pastor's particular position, pro or con.

DC-
I capishe.

Each of us has our own set of moral values, this is part of what makes us each individuals. I can respect yours, if you can respect mine. Keeping to these values is what makes us good and decent people.
I think what Reverend Wright was getting at is that too many politicions are willing to compromise, sell or abandon their values for personal or political gain until they basicly have no moral values at all. The line between right and wrong becomes blurred. We as a society suffer from their failure.

Rich,
We must have been writing at the same time as I didn't see your post until I had finished mine.
Yes, maintaining Honesty and Integrity is a good way to put it.

DC - You can add Pagan to that list of membership religions. RKBA crosses all religious boundaries, considering that freedom of religion is yet another constitutionally guaranteed right.

Joe..

So are Catholics, and you'd get plenty of arguements ;)

At least you list agnostics separately from atheists. That's more than I get in most places.

"Hey you, let's fight!"
"Them's fightin' words!"

DC -

Just out of curiousity, can ou elaborate on your comment, "so are Catholics, but you'd get arguments on that ....?"

Pudge..

I've been told and have heard from other "Christians" that Catholics are Catholic and not Christian.

Be it understood that I was born Catholic, am lapsed but still enjoy and appreciate Mass a few times per year.

That was a tongue in cheek remark to Joe's complaint that I listed Mormons separate from Christian...I've experienced the same thing.

After taking a breather I feel I have to vent, just a little. I can respect the spirit of the pastor's message and am glad that he said it (being free speech an all). I personally am not too fond of the delivery, but that's irrelevant. I have greatly enjoyed TFL because it provided a forum for logical, un-emotive, and often erudite RKBA discussion, as well as a myriad of other firearms related issues. Over the last month I have noticed an increase in posts with an ideological angle. As I understand this forum, I feel this blurs its purpose. There are many other venues for religious ideology. I guess at this point I will take Cornered Rat's advice and exit quietly, hoping that I don't need my turnouts to keep the heat out.

Respectfully,
JH

Mendocino-
As the Board owner, I want to go on record as saying there is no religious ideology intentionally supported here. One would be hard pressed to determine from my own posts whether I'm Christian, Jew, Jehovah's Witness or atheist.

I think DC's post on this thread clearly states our position....we respect everyone's right hold passionate religious beliefs but ask that they stick to firearms related subjects.

As I don't read every post to the Board, I am concerned that you sense an ideologic shift here. I encourage you to email me with further specifics. Thanks in advance for the input.
