Kansas No-Carry Stickers

So, I've been around for awhile, mostly just reading and learning (there are some very wise people here:) ) and felt compelled to ask this question. If it does not belong in the Legal and Political part, I apologize up front.

I have lived in Kansas all my life. I followed (with interest and excitement) the development of the CCW laws here. As soon as my financial situation allows I will purchase a handgun and obtain my CCW permit. However, as I look around me, I'm finding less and less reason to. With the exception of few places, most business seem to put those stupid "No-Carry Stickers" in the windows. Recently I had a conversation with a manager at IHOP and was told that they "had to have it up because the law said that a 24-hour business can't allow patrons to carry weapons" which is a load of crap.

Anyone else have this problem? I have a friend that's lived in Arizona for about 3 years now, and said he's seen 1 of those stickers at the DMV, where you can't carry anyway. Is it because Kansas is still new to the whole CCW idea? Will it get better? I'm debating just moving elsewhere because I feel that as a law abiding American, I should be able to exercise my Constitutional rights. Am I wrong to want to protect myself and others (hopefully never, but if needed)?

Depends on what the law says is the penalty for carrying where the sticker is posted. Here in Maine a company can post a a no carry sign if your are caught carrying in that has posted the sign all they can do is ask you to leave it is not a criminal offense. Your state may be different. If so call anyplace that puts the sticker up and tell them that you will be spending your money elsewhere. I always found it odd that a store would not want a person that has a ccw in there place? A person with a CCW has been checked out and proven to have no criminal record. Also the posting of such a sign tells any BG's that everyone in here is unarmed is that really the place you want to be?

Try packing.org for information pertaining to your individual state and the carry specifics, as it seems every state is different.

In Georgia we can carry concealed with a permit but like many other places there are exceptions.

My understanding here is that they can and will post those ridiculous signs at various places "either by the owners request or by implementation of a feel good policy" and if you carry concealed in the establishment and are asked to leave you must do so immediately.

For those who are asked to leave and do so without any argument there is nothing else they can do, for those who would refuse, the police are called and you will be issued a trespassing citation, showed the door and asked not to come back.

The above is a misdemeanor offense in my state if I am not mistaken.

I carry to the rules of the law and when I carry nobody has a clue I am armed.

Property owners have a right to decide what goes on on their property. You also have the right to not spend you dollars there.

In Kentucky, there is no penalty for carrying into a building that is posted as no CCW. Interestingly, if caught carrying they will ask you to leave. If you refuse, they will arrest you for trespassing but cannot punish you for the CCW infraction.

My CCW instructor, a retired policeman actually suggested that those signs be ignored. I agree.

One of the best reason to get your CCW is what it tells elected officals. Each CCW holder equates to 10 pro-gun votes and that means the more CCWs the less likely they will try to repeal carry laws but will relax restrictions on carry laws. Contact the businesses that post and tell them that you no longer feel safe shopping with them because the advertise it is safe to rob them.

Help the business owner to understand how well "gun-free" zones work out.

If he doesn't want to listen, help him to understand how "customer-free" zones work.

Hey, thanks for the advice guys... I really appreciate it, and I think since I have some free time tomorrow, I shall go apply for my permit. Then (even though I hate to do so as I LOVE Ihop) I will go speak with them (perhaps for the last time).

BTW, I found these for anyone interested. Perhaps Ihop will get one from me tomorrow. They're just little business cards to hand out (front and back, so look at both pages)...

In Texas there are places we are forbidden to carry, but ordinarily the sign must be a certain size, certain sized letters and words as per Texas Law otherwise they mean nothing.
