Kahr Polymer Micro???

I know Kahr will soon be releasing its first polymer pistol (full-size), but has anyone heard anything about them releasing their Micro pistols in polymer?

I'm still hoping for a K or a P in .45! W/a minimum of a 4" bbl., & at least 6+1, that would surely knock the Glock 36 out of the running. BTW, a P9 is on my shopping list for the next show.

If I remember correctly, the folks who went to the Shot show said that Kahr does not plan on releasing a mini version of the polymer framed gun.

Speaking of the K9 Polymer, I got my hands on one over over the weekend. I must say that I like my nickel K9 better. This is just my opinion, but I don't like the grip. It is certainly a little bit thinner than the steel framed guns. The sides of the grip look to be very close the same width as the slide. It just felt funny in my hand.

I had my eyes out looking for a polymer Kahr. I found a stainless K9 and bought it. I had been carrying a Springfield Compact that weighed over 40 oz. with a full clip. The Kahr only goes about 25 oz. full. That pound sure makes a big difference over the course of a day.

I shot the K9 in a IDPA match this weekend. As long as the course of fire was 8 rounds or less, no mag change required, or 12 to 15 rounds, one mag change required, I could keep up with the big boys quite easily. Pistol is a natural shooter for me. Reliable, no failures to feed or extract. I like it.

Only thing I noticed, was that it dents the brass during ejection. Anybody else have that problem? Everything clears, just noticed that when picking up brass.

Yes John, its common, even more so with the K40. Search posts under H & P by member "riddleofsteel" for the solution.
DMSC: Is it really that much thinner? Would a Hogue slip-on do the trick. Was it the standard trigger pull, or the shorter/lighter "Elite" style?

DMSC is partially correct. The MP9 is at least a year away. Since Kahr acquired Auto Ordinance their primary concern is to re-engineer the 1911 so they can get into the 1911 market with a decent pistol, unlike the earlier AO pistols. They are also looking at improvements to the Thompson carbine to make it more reliable. Once these projects are finished, they will go back to the P9 and think about the MP9.

Drats!!!

I was hoping for Kahr would be working on a MP9 (or .40). To me, that would be one heck of a CC piece! Not that I don't like the steel MK9 - but honestly, they're as heavy as a brick!

Well, maybe I can hope for a single-stack mini Glock 26/27?!?!?!?

Gentlemen:
I wrote Kahr to prais their products, as well as, to ask about the possibility of a polymer Micro 9. Herein below is Kahr's response. Good shooting, Docbones

"Thanks for the compliments. Next plan for polymer is a chambering in 40 S&W.
No word on MK series as of yet."

VictorLouis,

It is thinner, but not a great deal thinner. I just find the K9 grip to be the second best feeling grip (right behind a Hi-Power with GOOD grip panels) I've ever wrapped my paw around.

The slip-on might help, though I can't say that I really care for the finger groves.

They didn't have an Elite model to compare to and my K9 was loaded on my hip...so, based solely on my dry firing the Polymer gun I'd say it was the standard trigger.

Two more things, other than the grip, that I don't car for are:

1) The mag release is made of polymer. I had some trouble when inserting the mag. I'm sure it would be better after a number of insertions to break it in. What worries me is that after it is broken in, will it keep on wearing and then fail to lock a mag in place.

2) The balance of the gun is all wrong. It's muzzle heavy. I'm sure a loaded mag would help, but that's the wrong way to balance a gun. The weight of the loaded mag shouldn't hurt the balance, but it shouldn't be relied upon to give the gun proper balance either.

I like the all steel K9. It's not too heavy. It's easy to shoot with very little recoil, even with hot loads.

I've gone the lightweight carry gun route before and it's not path I care to sprinkle my money down again. I like to shoot my guns and the light-weights are not comfortable to shoot for more than a brief period.

Just my very humble opinion and it's not meant to belittle Kahr's efforts. They have made a nice gun for those who decide that they want a lightweight version of one the best handguns available. :)

some Kahrs can never be stopped from denting brass. a stronger recoil spring helps. my gunsmith wants a crack at adjusting the extractor and stoneing the ejector. however that would violate the rule--IF IT IS NOT BROKE WHY FIX IT. it may be inherent to the design.

I have a P9, & have put 300 rds thru it. Recoil is not bad- much like my G29 with midrange loads, balance is similar also. I do have to shoot it with my fingertip pad- otherwise it smacks my finger into my thumb. Backstrap is hollow if someone wanted to do a Seattle Slug thing to make a light gun heavy. I spoke w/ Kahr when I ordered night sights- nothing on a MP9/P40 at this time, all P9's have the "Elite" trigger. I may be wrong, but it sure looks like there is a steel insert in the mag relase shelf.

10mmman,

Since you own one, I'll defer to you on the trigger and mag catch. :)

The trigger on the P9 that I played with didn't feel as nice as my K9 trigger. In fairness to the P9, I do have a Wolff reduced power striker spring in mine.

The metal insert would definitely make me feel better about the mag catch.
