I've owened this pistol for a little over a year without any problems. Just the other day while shooting ww white box 115gr target ammo, the slide stop activates half way through the mag. locking the slide open, thumbing the slide closed it, did it again after two rounds. I tried shooting left hand and asked a fellow shooter to try it also, the only way to fire a full mag. is to hold the slide stop down while firing. We tried different mags and ammo and shooters, same result, slide stop riding up and locking open the action. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Any ideas before I contact kahr will be appreciated.

I seem to recall that Kahr had to fix them with a new spring and a washer set-up under the stop. Does your slide stop have a spring and a plastic washer under it? If not give them a call for parts. If you have to send it in you won't see it for probably at least three weeks. Good luck.

Oh yea, if you do have the spring and washer, make sure the spring is under washer properly. It's a pretty Mickey Mouse set-up in my opinion.

My MK40 did that because the tang that engages the mag stuck out too far and hit the nose of the bullet. After verifying the spring was in correctly I removed a little of the slide stop with a fine file in the offending area. Gun now functions 100%

Premature slide lock was/is a very common problem with P9 pistols. Many of the "P" series Kahrs in time seem to develop other problems, like failure to go into battery, failure of the trigger to activate the striker, and "walkout" of the trigger pin. IIRC one or more P40 owners posting in TFL experienced a broken frame.

My P9 eventually developed all of these problems (except the broken frame) though sometimes it took a couple of hundred rounds after the factory's "fix" before they showed up.

Which is why a Glock 26 now fills the niche that my P9 - make that my POS9 - was intended for.

The G26 is a bit thicker, but it WORKS!

Kahr has redesigned the slide lock. They'll send you a new one if you ask. I got one and it works a lot better. Mine started having a problem locking the slide after the last round, but the new slide lock, along with cleaning and lubing the mags, got everthing working fine again. The new lock is also a bit flatter.

I own a K9 and from what I've seen on the web the polymer Kahrs seem to be more problem prone than the stainless steel framed guns for some reason.

Recent convert to the P9 as backup. 2500 rounds to date. No problems so far. Will keep you updated. Sure it's not grip?

Hank, no kidding? Hmmmm (confidence waning). . . .
