Kahr P9 Report

Finally got it yesterday.
I've put 300 rounds through it, all after dark, da@n work anyway.
I've been waiting 6 years for Kahr to make this pistol.......I wasn't disapointed.
First the down sides.....
1) Very scarce in my area...had to wait 3 weeks and drive 200 miles to get it.
2) Ordered with night sights but took it without, will add them later. Got from the largest gun dealer in Indy, my 21st handgun from him, he put me on top of his list. Serial # in 800's.
3) One clip bad, failure to feed, thought was gun to start with.
4) Slide release was atrotious, sticks way out and has sharp edges.
Now that that's out of the way......One great pistol.....
Has the 98 elite trigger....SWEET....smothest double action trigger I've ever fired.....including glocks and revolvers with trigger jobs.
Got out the trusty dremel and took off some size and rough edges on the slide release, polished the ramp while I was at it.
Seems to shoot to point of aim, although haven't bench rested it yet, but hits 4" spinning target at fifteen yards consistently(with car headlights in the dark). Won't have a chance to put it on paper until Monday.
Grip was a little to small and abrasive, added "hand-all jr." and that did the trick.
Reliability.....100% after first 100 rounds with good clip.
100 % with Pro-Load 124 + P's, Gold Dot 124's and Hydra-Shock 124's.
Equalizer.......Felt recoil about the same as my Glock m19 or Smith m37 with standard loads. Not bad for a 9mm in such a light package, I attribute this to the hand being very close to the barrel axis.
Fit and finish is what you would expect from Kahr.
All in all, one very sweet gun, will probably take position of my main carry weapon.
Will update when have had chance to thourghly test.
Will be glad to answer specific questions.........Stay safe.......Jim

Did the person you purchased it from mention anything about when or if they would come out with a MP9 version, a polymer version of the MK9?

Thanks for the review, James. I'm thinking about picking one up as well.

Hey, did you get your Kahr at Plainfield Shooting Supplies? If you did, I was standing next to you when you bought it :D

Jason.......Small world.....Yes, I got it from Bob. Been doing business with him for years. Small world. Were you the one who wanted to see it?

Forgot to add earlier, breakdown and cleaning are a breeze after break in period.
About 4 seconds to fully dismantle( although couldn't do by hand until 200 rounds ).

Bob thought he was getting another today or tomorrow. My advice, buy it.

Stay safe...........Jim

Jim,
That's amazing :) Yup, I'm the guy you let hold it. I called Bob yesterday and he said he'd be getting one in today. I think I might be heading down there :D
Again, thanks for the review and letting me see your new toy :)

Lucky, DMSC is right. I asked Kahr the same thing at the SHOT Show. The acquisition of Auto Ordnance has been made top priority. They are selling carbines as fast as they can be made and the problems with the 1911 necessitate a reverse engineering to find the problems. 1911's sell very well and they want to get an affordable gun, that works, to market as soon as possible. The MP9 is about 18 months off at least according to what I was told.

Awesome possum! (Translation: A big compliment!)

James,

Thanks a lot for the detailed review. It sounds like a winner. Once I can find one locally, if my better half to be doesn't want it, I can always get her another....Besides, I could probably find a lonely holster that that Kahr will fit on my own belt. ;)

I'm surprised that the recoil is like the Glock 19. That's good news as I think the little lady can handle that, being a .45 ACP fan too.

That was a good touch when they decided to put that Elite trigger in it as a standard feature. I got to give credit where credit is due. Not too many semi autos can be said that they have a trigger better than a revolver with a trigger job.

Congratulations on your new friend. Your one of the first kids on the block with this one. A lot of us have been waiting on more details about it. I appreciate the response.
