Kahr - P9 or MK9?

I want one, but can only get one (for now). I want a small concealable type firearm. I really dig the look and feel of the MK9, but have heard a lot of good things about the P9.

What do you think?

I own both. I would purchase the P9 first, because of the lighter weight. Actually, Scott McDougall & Associates? and other gunsmiths can cut down the frame to MK9 size if needed; therefore, I think the MK9 is obsolete with the P9 on the market. The 3.5 inch barrel on the P9 conceals just as well as the 3 inch barrel in the MK9, and you get extra velocity and reduced muzzle flip with the longer barrel and slide.

If you have the chance, to not pass up the opportunity to get a P9! That guns is awesome! I have both, and I would not waste my time with the steel Kahrs unless you want a fun little plinking gun. The steel Kahr is a great gun, but it is a little "brick" and neither my wife nor I would ever carry my steel Kahr because it is so heavy. It is fun to shoot though.
For carry and evertything else, the P9 is AWESOME! The P9 is so slim....and the handle is just long enough to get your full hand onto...and it is so light....and the trigger is so sweet...it is a real gem.

Ohh man I just shot mine for the fits time.. buy a P9 you can always cut the grip down to MK9 mag size if you need it smaller... WOW.. recoil is really light..trigger great.. NO jams in 115 rounds and I forgot to lube it  This pistol is soo light I can't believe it and it's accurate enough for defensive shooting. I put a houge handall jr rubber grip sleeve on mine and I think it improves the grip 55% ;) THIS is the CCW 9mm. God I love my CZ-75 but it huge and heavy compared to the P9

I'm done for now...

I carry a Glock 26 and you guys got me to thinking about the Kahr P9. I went to their website and it is an ugly gun. The fit and finish didn't look good from what I could see.

What kind of reliability do you guys see? How much did you pay? Is it really worth giving up 3 rounds (Glock 26 10+1) and Glock's reliability for this pistol?

That's a TOUGH ONE!!! I've got both. (well, the MK9's my wife's)

My P9 is my new favorite gun, but it's not a true pocket gun. The MK9 is only slightly heavier, but it's SOOOO small!!

If you want a true pocket pistol, I'd do the MK9. If a BIG pocket pistol, or an INVISIBLE IWB, SOB, ETC :) fits your bill, then the P9 is just what the doctor ordered.

Kilgore... I can't believe you think the P9 is ugly... it looks like a Glock that lost weight! :D I'm not crazy about the two-tone finish, but that can be remedied for about $120. Fit and finish, btw... are EXCELLENT! It's a great gun, and well worth the money!

It's advantages of being slimmer and lighter than a G26 are more than worth the loss of 2 rounds for me. I had a choice between a P9 and G26, and it was no contest. I don't use it to protect the house, only to keep on me when I'm out, so I don't worry about 9 rounds as opposed to 11 (promag 8+1). If those 9 rounds don't do the trick, I'm not doing my job! But then, I've still got 7 more rounds in the MK9 :)

Good luck on your decision Level!

Oh yeah, one more thing.... MH... have you seen the price McDougall charges to cut the P9? It's almost the cost of a new gun! Until Kahr puts out their own version of the "MP9", the MK9 is far from obsolete. ;)

MH- Good breeding shows ;)

As to the appearance of the P9..it looks exactly like a glock except thiner and a different trigger. I used to have a G19 for years believe me it's like you left it in the wash to long and it shrunk.. LOL

I don't understand why someone would pay $330 to cut the end off thier P9.. I don't think there are any parts in that location except the grip (frame) itself.. cut it off with a hacksaw, leaving a little extra and then file it down perfectly ..saved yourself $330 bucks. All you'd have to do is buy a MK magazine.

Hm.....cut down the P9 to accept MK9 mags. What a great idea!
I cut my Glock 22/31 to take G23 mags and I LOVE it. I can really conceal that thing.

I may just have to buy another P9 now to cut it down. I am sure I could do it myself, since I did my Glock myself.

Once again though: if you have the chance to buy a P9, don't walk, RUN down there and buy it. "Do not pass GO, do not collect $200", go straight to the gun store.

And an enthusiastic endorsementof P9 from me, too. P9 grip just fills my hand, and the slightly longr barrel helps. Moreover, the P9 is slightly slimmer than the MK9.
