Kahr P9 Covert??

Does anyone have experience with this gun? I've been comparing it online to a Taurus PT111....have seen several posts about the 111, mostly negative....haven't seen much at all about the Kahr P9 Covert.

Kahr.....nice!

Indy...Kahr arms is one of the best "super compact" gun manufacturers around , if not the best.
They are dao handgun..which gives them a LONG trigger pull, but it is light and very smooth. The covert is actually designed just as its name implies..."covert" its designed for the ultimate carry gun.
It has the full size barrel (for a Kahr) for better accuracy and the MK grip and mag for easy concealment. I have shot the k9, k40
and an mk40...which was a potent little monster. But not too much. IMO you cant go wrong with a Kahr..I think that will be the typical response here or anywhere.............shoot well

Thanks Eric, but I was really looking for info on Kahr's Polymer P9 guns, not the steel ones that you have shot. I have an MK9 and MK40 already. I'm hoping to find out if the reliability of the Kahr polymers is as good as their steel guns, which is excellent.

Search these forums - there have been a lot of postings by different people who have had a wide variety of problems with Kahr's polymer guns. Supposedly the problems have finally been worked out, but then again, none of the gun rags ever alluded to any difficulty when the pistols were first introduced.

I had a P9. I now have a G26. I'll put up with just a little more bulk to get a pistol that actually works.

I have a P9 that I carry a lot. It did have the 'slide stop problem', but I sent it back to Kahr, they had it back in about 10 days, and it has been 100% ever since.

It does have the typical Kahr trigger (which is to say nice), it's quite accurate for its size, and eats averything I've fed it. I do find the grip to be a bit small for my big paws, but it isn't an issue - I bought the gun because it's small & concealable. At the time I also looked at the G26 and Beretta 9000, but found both to be too porky, and I just can't warm up to the Glock trigger. I'm happy with mine:cool:

Kahr P9 Reliability

I'm at 665 rounds, so far.

100 rounds range reloads
550 rounds Winchester whitebox FMJs
15 CorBon 115 g +Ps

So far I have had no failures to load, fire, or eject. I do have one factory mag which sometimes fails to lock open after the last shot. My other mag performs flawlessly. :)

My P9 Covert has run 100% from round 2 onward (round 1 required nudging the slide fully into battery). The shooting has, thus far, been with Federal and Winchester 115gr. ball and Speer 124gr. JHP +P. It has been shot about 500 rounds so far.

The pistol hits where it looks and is a delight to use.

A friend picked up one of the P40 Coverts. He is experiencing premature lock-open with it. However, the problem only occurs with 1 magazine. The magazine in question is one of the extended 6-round versions. The problem does not occur with the flush-fitting 5-round mags or with other extended 6-rounders...just the one.

A fellow on pistolsmith.com reported that his P40 (can't recall if it was a "Covert") had a wimpy mag catch spring and would jetison the mag at inopportune times.
