Kahr P9 and hollowpoints

I fired 200 rounds of Winchester FMJ through a new P9 with no problems. I cleaned the gun, went back to the range two 2 weeks later, fired 30 more FMJ, and then I tried firing 5-year old Corbon (hollowpoints) through it, and the third one jammed when feeding. It fed all the way in but the last 1/8 inch, and it didn't come out by just cycling the slide. I cleaned the gun and loaded the hollowpoints into the mag again, and found that it would jam when I tried to manually cycle the first round in, but not if I locked the slide and let the slide do the work when I released it with the slide lock lever. I reloaded the mag with FMJ and had no problems manually cycling rounds through.

Is anyone else having problems feeding hollowpoints into their P9?

I`m using Federal 135gr Hydra Shoks in my P9.

I don`t know if they`re the very best but I`ve had no feeding problems. I`d try a different brand of hollowpoint.

I've read a lot of post concerning feeding problems with Corbons, also a lot generel quality control issues with them. I'd try some other brands before I blamed it on the pistol.

Thanks, gentlemen. I'll try Golden Sabres next, I've got some of those tucked away somewhere. I was just fishing to see if there were any known problems out there. (I started to say "trolling", but that has a different connotation here in cyberspace).

Also, I thought that maybe I was just spoiled by my 92FS. Nothing ever bad happens bad with it. I'm convinced it's the most underrated pistol out there. Everything is just so smooth, also.

I'm mightily impressed with the accuracy of the P9, though. I shot almost as well with it as my 92FS, and the P9's barrel is much shorter, it's kick is greater, and I don't have near the experience with it. How'd Kahr do that ? I think it's the trigger.

Don't go by what I say, though. I've only got about 4000 rounds total shooting experience, and so I've got a long ways to go before I match the expertise of most of the posters here at TFL.

.

I carry Cor-bons in my P9. I regularly load and unload it with Corbon HP's and I have no trouble getting it to cycle the first HP manually. The chambers on Kahrs are quite tight I believe. I'd suggest you shoot some more FMJ through it before getting crazy over it. I've had my problems with my P9 but it works very well now and you can't beat it with a stick for concealed carry its just so light and small. It's also very inherently accurate.

Of course switching ammo brands is a viable way to try to solve it. I'd spend some more money on FMJ break in ammo first.

Good point. I may be taking the manual's 200-round break-in too literally. I'll run another 2-300 FMJ through it and then see.

What's happening with "break-in"? Are we just rounding rough edges, or loosening tight tolerances ?

Someone else was having a similar problem with some Corbons:

and ONLY with Corbons. Oddly enough. Long in depth scientific look at the problem. Good read.

In short, yeah, try another brand. Remington Golden Sabers are GREAT bullets.

Try a different brand. I run Remington 115 gr +p+ green box (not golden sabre) through my K9 and MK9 without any problem.
