Kahr P-9

Anyone own one? How does it compare with the standard K-9? Also, is an 8 shot 9mm enough to get the job done? I'm interested in a light ccw, that is thin enough to be inconspicuous. All the gun magazines are giving the P-9 rave reviews, and I would like some information from actual shooters with their own opinions. Thanks in advance to all who reply.

I have the P9 and it is great (see my older postes for more) BUT I will have to smooth the sharp edges of the slide lock lever...bad for IWB carry (I tried it last night at home, can't carry anywhere else around here).

I have a P9 and like it. The trigger is a bit long for my taste (most of my other guns are tuned 1911s) but it's pretty smooth. It is slim and light and a nice option for carry when the 45s are a bit much. Having said that, I have yet to obtain a Kydex holster that fits the P9 (the K9 models do not work).

I plan on replacing the sights (probably with big dot tritium Ashleys). Otherwise it's a keeper.

Love mine! My house gun's an HK USP, so the DA trigger pull on the Kahr is a DREAM in comparison!

It doesn't feel as "good" as the K9 when you rack the slide. The polymer frame gives it a different... something.

Overall, it's thin enough, light enough, and I hope... powerful enough (with Remington Golden Sabre +P's) to get the job done.

Picked one up last week, took it to the range last Friday. I did very well except the slide locked back several times with rounds still in the mag. Seemed to happen more with FMJ and heavier HP (like Rem GS 124 +p). Did best with some 115 JHPs but still not perfect. An e-mail to Kahr on Monday morning is still unanswered which is a little disturbing. It appears that the 2nd round in the mag can come into contact with the slide release knocking it into the locked position. I have considered fixing this problem with my dremel but have held off until I hear from them. Size, weight and trigger pull are excellent. The grip is very this, almost too thin as the 124 +p load hurt a little as this narrow grip wedged into my hand but not enough to keep me from carrying +p ammo. I've been carrying mine in an Alessi DOJ holster made for a K40. If I can get the premature slide lock problem fixed, my only question will be, where is the MP9, I want one! Monty

I don't have one, but have looked at them. They seem like fine compact pistols.

Eight round of almost anything, 9mm included , is adequate for self defense.

I have a P9. Until my last range trip I was sure it was great. I was gripping the pistol harder than normal, producing two types of malfunction. I experienced 2 slide lockups on loaded magazines. They were due to my thumb pressing up on the slide stop. I experienced 3 "clicks" when I expected "BANG." I realized that during recoil, my thumb was contacting the magazine release and the magazine would drop about 1cm down. Thus no round gets chambered. The Kahr allows my pinky to halfway rest on the magazine floorplate, which unfortunately helps to pull the magazinee down. I have now experienced malfunctions caused by gripping the pistol too lightly and too firmly. When I grip the pistol normally it has not failed me yet (500-1000rds total).
I have heard that it has the elite trigger, but I wouldn't know. All I know is it is a nice trigger and I wouldn't want a lighter trigger in my waistband.
Is it enough? If you do your job then you can compare 8 rounds of 9mm ball to 8 pellets of 000 Buck from a 12 gauge.

After reading the above comments (posted while I typed) I believe my 2 slide lockups occured after firing the first round, so maybe it was the second bullet pushing up on the slide stop.

The problem with premature lock-back is not your technique. I had an identical problem and it was due to broken slide lock lever spring. Send it back or ask them to mail you the part.

In contrast to No4, I TRIED to limp wrist mine and couldn't get it to choke. I gripped it so loosely, it would almost leave my hand every shot. Two full mags w/o a bobble. I should also mention covering it with sand, on both sides, and then shooting through a mag successfully. Thankfully, I have not experienced the weak slide stop spring that plagued Oleg, and now another poster on the Kahr e-group. Yes, the slide stop lever itself DOES need a bit of de-horning.

Actually I stretched the truth a little. The "limpwristing" failures were produced by gripping the lower half of the grip only. Covering the entire grip with my hand but holding very weakly did not cause a jam, but it did cause an ejected case to hit me in the forehead -Ouch- so I don't do that any more.
