Kahr mods

A few quick questions gang. First, does anyone use the ported barrel offered by Kahr? Second, will this fit in the P9. Finally, what mods have you guys done to your Kahrs. e.g. trigger radiusing etc.

The first thing I did to mine was take off all the sharp edges, Kahrs deburr work needs some..well..work. Next I added some Ed Brown socket head grip screws (1911 screws work fine after taking off excess length) Then added some Trijicon nite sights and that was pretty much it. The Slide release lever needs some edges taken off as well.

I got a trigger job on my Kahr, sharp spots dehorned, and 30 lpi front strap checkering.

I installed a set of Ashley outdoors pro express bar-dot tritium sights. My first choice was the new Heinie straight 8 sights, but they won't be available until the end of the year. The other thing I did was install a reduced power firing spring from wolfe.I can't say enough about those little springs. It reduced the already good trigger pull of my K40 Elite by another 25%!!!.HOWEVER-wolfe recommends the use of these springs for "competition only".I'm used to carrying all my Glocks with the 3 1/2 # connecters anyway,so it isn't that much of a "shock" to my triggerfinger.I have also heard that replacing the factory 20# spring with a 22# spring and a Harts recoil reducer does wonders for the recoil. But since my fovorite load is the Federal 165 gr @950 fps,I don't need one.But if I wanted to use Cor-Bon or something similar,I would try the spring/Harts pkg.

jnixp,

How much of a hassle was it installing the Wolff firing pin spring? I have one of the reduced power springs, but I'm hesitant to wind up with a box of parts I can't reassemble.

I just sent the entire slide assembly on my P9 to be GunKoted in matte black. I'll try to post pix when I get it back.

I just ordered the 4" ported barrel for my K40. I'll let everyone know what I think when I get it in and try it out.

Sox...

I've been told that the barrel for the K9 won't fit the P9. There's some small diff. between the two.

All I've done on my new P9 is Mepros. I do plan to put a Wolff firing spring in it soon, and eventually, the Wolff #22 GRS and Harrts guide-rod.

It's a GREAT little gun...

PS... I'm interested in the GunKote process too. Do they have a website?

I'll hold you to those pictures when yours is finished!!!

Onslaught,

I don't want to sound like an unsoliticted cheerleader for Mac's Shootin' Iron Restorations, but I cannot help it. They do the BEST work on guns I have seen. They did my AR-15 and are doing my Kahr slide. Great prices, great product (GK), and even more important to me, the best customer service in the industry. The amount of work they do on each gun for the price is incredible. Don't take my word for it. Do a search in the archives here, at AR15.com, or in the newsgroups. His site is: http://www.shootiniron.com. Take a look.

OK, end of the commercial. Sorry, but I'm a very satisfied customer, and have no trouble recommending firms that give me outstanding service.

Scott, I'm glad to here of your positive experience with SI, and GK. I have been mulling that finish over for two reasons. Tucson is right in my back yard, from Phoenix, and I still prefer black in an auto finish.

I did a trigger job on my E9, and I feel that it was well worth my effort. Prior to re-finishing it, I will also de-horn it, bevel the mag well and stipple the front strap. My P9 needs nothing except a de-horning of the slide stop. Oh, and maybe a black slide coating too. :)

The striker spring replacement is something that makes me a little edgy. I would be concerned of misfires, due to the VERY short length of travel there is for the spring to expand. Remember, it may start off OK in testing, but I KNOW that the factory spring still works after it has WELL settled in. I've yet to have any misfires.
