Kahr MK9 v Sig 239

I prefer the Kahr MK9 for a small 9mm handgun. Others talk highly of the Sig 239. My wife does not care for the MK9 mostly because she has trouble racking the slide. What is your opinion of these two weapons? Would my wife like the 239 any better than the MK9?

The SIG P-239...

...is a fine little handgun. It's probably going to be easier for her to rack the slide on, as there's more to hold on to, both on the grips and the rear of the slide.

Extended range sessions will probably be more pleasant with the slightly larger SIG, too.

What about a regular K9? It's larger than the MK9, (theoretically easier to manipulate slide) and still smaller than the P239. Also, if there is a difference in mag capacity, it's only 1 round. (Maybe none).

But if SHE likes the Sig better, there's certainly nothing wrong with them!

Both are fine weapons. I believe that the P239 is superior in quality, fit, finish and comfort.

The Kahr is less comfortable to shoot for large hands and the recoil has been known to take a bite out of the thumb on the shooting hand.

The Kahr is sometimes called the American "Glock" because of the similiar design and operation.

If you want a double action/single action the SIG may be a better choice. The Kahr has the upper hand in terms of size and concealability. Many feel that the P239 is THE finest weapon of its class. No arguments from me.

My opinion differs from Billy B's, I prefer the Kahr over the SIG in the compact arena. I have a K9 and a 239, quality, fit and finish I would say are the same, the SIG being slightly larger is an advantage for larger hands. I simply shoot the Kahr better and it is smaller, which is an advantage if the gun is going to be carried.

YES, the 239 slide is easier to rack. The Kahr has some pretty stout springs.

I never looked at a Kahr, but IMHO the 239 does not have the best trigger that Sig makes. I looked at 239s in 9mm and 357 and chose another style Sig due to the rougher trigger in the 239s.

Both are fine weapons although I wouldn't consider them in the same category as the MK9 much smaller. A better comparison would be the Sig P239 vs the kahr K9 or P9.

If you aren't going to be doing any carry the Sig P239 would serve you better. It is much easier to hold on to, no pinkie under the grip hold and the larger weapon will help in recoil control.

The sig 239 grip just isn't shaped right. Try a Sig 225 or 228. By the way, I have sold my sig 239's, and have gone to Kahr P9's. Much lighter, thinner, better for concealed carry.

If you choose the Sig P239, get the Hogue soft rubber grips for it. They can really improve the human factor in shooting that pistol, and make the P239 a real dream to shoot. I have yet to hear of anyone complaining about the grip on the P239 after installing the Hogues (will those complaints be coming now??). One thing about small hands and ladies who like (or would like) to shoot - is that you can go too small with the grip. The ladies tend not to have as much hand strength as the men, and for those who are lesser in the grip, it is just as hard to shoot with a too small grip as it is a too big grip. The P239 *seems* to be just right for many.
