  • Not much difference in size or weight, go with what you shoot better with (big hands vs small hands

As in my last post, i was wondering how many of you think the mk9 is just too heavey and wish you would have got a P9?

I'm unsure which option to take, but here's what I think:

The Kahr is holster pistol, due to it's fairly light trigger. Same deal as Glocks. This means that the pocket weight isn't a big issue, and the MK9's weight in the holster is not significant anyway. The weight does help the weapon during shooting.

Grip size is moot. All Kahrs have small grips.

The MK9 works perfectly. Sounds like the P series is still getting the bugs worked out.

Buy an MK9 and carry it in a holster.

Weight is not an issue for me.
The mk-9 is not "almost weightless" like a kel-tec p-32 or a S&W ti* J-frame. Loadded weight is about the same as the mini glocks or even an all stainless snubby. It is super accurate with minimal recoil. Guns this size can be unpleasent to shoot, not the MK-9 though

I carry my mk-9 in a kramer pocket holster and find it very comfortable and have put it in an ankle holster while around the house and after the initial fealing of "somethings on my ankle" It did not feal any different than my S&W ti*, This is exactly the same way it feals in the pocket. I feal its a terrific mini 9mm, if not the finast available.

Opinions on what is a pocket gun, ankle gun, weight issue's etc.. are all relative, It all comes down to what you feal comforable with, For me I would much rather have a 7 shot 9mm in my pocket with a small sacrifice of weight vs. a 5 shot 38 or a 8 shot 32.;)

I either own or have owned several, including the MK9, MK40, P9 and P40. Still have the MK9 and P40.

The P9 is the only Kahr I ever had problems with, but Kahr finally replaced it.

The weight of the MK9 is not really all that, it's just so small to weigh that much, it feels heavier.

I never carried my MK40 in a pocket, but I guess you could. For me, it came down to the grip length. I'm just more comfortable having all three fingers on the grip, as well as a full backstrap in the palm to fill up the hand. There are days I miss my MK40, but I'm pretty happy with my P40. Just depends on what you want it for... if you carry in a holster, why not get the P series. Even better, don't buy anything until after this year's SHOT show, and see if Kahr unveils the "MP9", which would take care of all your needs. I plan on buying one as soon as they exist.

If you don't want to wait, or they don't offer them this year, there's always the P9 Covert. The slide length is the same as the P9, but the grip length is that of the MK series. It will fit in an ankle holster, since the grip is the part that shows most anyway. Plus you get that polymer light weight you're obviously interested in.

I couldn't even begin to guess about the ankle holster, but some people carry bigger, heavier guns that way.

I can't imagine the belly band being a problem.

The gun may have some mass, but it's well contained; no long grip or slide to throw the gun around more.

As I've posted elsewhere, I am a new MK9 owner.
I purchased it as a holster gun.
I consider it too heavy for pocket carry.
I also purchased a new belly band for the MK.
Haven't used it yet, but I feel the size/wt of the MK9 is ideal for holster concealed carry.

I have a P32 for pocket carry, and some day, when the MP9 has been debugged, I'll probably get one of those.

I carry the MK9 on the ankle all the time. I use a Galco ankle glove. It takes some getting used to but it's ok. You eventually forget it's there until you cross your ankles. I find that it is a good idea to wear over the ankle boots to support the holster so it doesn't drop down. -Coug
