Kahr MK9 Elite

Searching for a new concealed carry gun and have been admiring the MK9 standard and Elite. I would like to hear from anyone that owns one as to its reliability and durability right out of the box. I have a KelTec P11 that has been a good gun but in all honesty it doesn't appeal to my aesthetic side, feels too much like a toy. Thanks for responding, Mike

My opinion?

You will not find a finer subcompact concealled carry auto at any price than a Kahr MK9 Elite 98 9mm. I have a K9 and an MK9 (both Elite 98s) and both have yet to choke on anything they have been fed.

The K9 is near perfect if you are looking for a belt gun. If you want to carry it on the ankle, you really need to step down in size to the MK9. But either gun will work in either place. Both can also be carried in a shoulder holster, fanny pack, or IWB holster with comfort. The MK will even fit in you pocket.

You really should spend the small amount extra and get the Elite. It is worth every penny for the better finish and trigger pull.

I constantly read and hear people complaining about the weight of the all steel gun versus it's plastic and aluminum competitors. My response is this. If you can't handle the weight of an all steel gun, you probably have no business carrying one in the first place. Are the lighter guns more comfortable to carry? Sure. But which one is more comfortable to shoot? Me...I like the assurance a chunk of steel on my hip gives me.

Buy a Kahr and don't look back. You won't be disappointed.

I'm extremely happy with my MK40 Elite 98.

I still don't understand why people complain about the weight of the steel Kahrs, my MK40 is lighter and more comforable to carry then my Makarov or even my Steyr M40. I can't imagine that there would be much to be gained by going from a steel Kahr to a poly one.

The only disadvantage to the Kahrs is their small capacity (my MK40 has a 5 round and a 6 round magazine, so 2 full mags +1 in pipe and I'm only carrying 12 rounds total ... with my Steyr I was carrying 21). But thats kind of the nature of subcompact guns, and there's plenty of wheel gun guys in the exact same boat.

Thanks for the responses. I know to diehard Kahr fans this sounds odd but I have never liked the feel of the Kahr K9 so when the MK series came out I picked up both the MK9 & MK40. The MK9 just had a better feel in the way the weight was distributed. The MK9 really felt the best of any Kahr I have looked at. Still haven't made up my mind as there are a few other guns I am considering as well but the MK9 is right up there. To me this is one of the joys of gun ownership; going through the process of picking your next one.

I have a K9, MK9, and K40. Great little guns. Reliable for me out of the box. The MK9 will fit in a pocket, but it is a heavy bugger -- heavier than the Keltec.

MikeJ,

Another vote for the MK9 elite 98 - my constant companion. Accurate and reliable with a great trigger. This is the one I trust.
