Kahr Micro 40 v. 9

hello all:

I am considering a Kahr Micro to replace my current pocket rig a S&W 642 with Speer Gold Dot, 124 (?) grain, +p ammo. The main reason is that I am not a big fan of the 38, even in +p velocities. Since ammo capacity is similar, that is not a concern. Secondary reasons are: it is smaller, flatter and semi auto (for me at least) facilitates any easier reload.

My question concerns the shootablibity of the 9mm v. the .40 S&W in this size of handgun. If I can go with the forty, I would probably choose to do so, but I don't want to buy one if it is to much for the package.

Any thoughts?

Oh goodie, one I can answer from my own experience with my own guns :)

Bought theWife an MK9. AWESOME little gun. She loves it. I loved it. So as soon as Kahr made 'em, I ordered an MK in my caliber of choice, .40. First impression, it was heavier than her MK9, and had a different balance to it, more top heavy. I put the Pearce extension on the short mag because I HATE the pinkie swingin when I'm shooting.

As for the recoil, it was NOT at all what I expected. From such a heavy gun, it wasn't much different than the 9mm. Heck, I loved it, except for the weight and the short grip. The only other thing I really didn't like was losing that extra round over the MK9.

Lots of times, I've regretted selling that perfectly wonderful MK40 to buy one of the Polymer Kahrs...

I have the MK40 also. Great gun. Accurate and recoil is not bad. The MK40 is only 1 oz. heavier than the MK9. The extra weight is in slide. Take a look at www.kahr.com They have some articles there from gun magazines that have reviewed the 9 and the 40. This helped me to make my decision.

My 13 year old has no trouble with the MK40. He's not a big kid either. I love these little guns. Good luck. You can't go wrong either way.

Got em both...carry the .40, and run about 50 rounds a week through it. Recoil is not a problem. The 9 has one more shot available. Both are great guns, and do the job. (Onslaught...rest assured you MK40 is well loved and cared for.) Gary

Agreed on the MK40. Great little gun, a tad heavy for its size, but that's what makes it such a sweet shooter.

Recoil with hot loads (Speer 165gr GD) is easily less than an Airweight .38 with hot loads (Speer 125gr +p GD). No problemo.

I'm STILL waiting for the MP9....

Waiting, waiting, waiting....Kahr is going to beat Glock to the punch. I just wish they would HURRY UP about it! :)

I have an MK9. I really think the 9mm is better than a .40 S&W or a .357 SIG for many reasons I won't go in to. They have all been explored on this site.
