Kahr K9 vs MK9

I am looking for advice re: the K9 and MK9. I would like to purchase one of them for CCW. Does anyone have any comments on:
- Shootability?
- Deep Concealment?
- Anything else i should be aware of?
- Is the MK that much easier to conceal?

I am 6'1" and 195lbs and have an active life style. I have a CCW permit but don't want the world to know when i am carrying.

- and yes... i have also considered the G26 :D

Thanks.

The Kahr is a fine weapon. Some call it the American Glock. My personal favourite is the MK9. I feel that it has the edge on its bigger brother in the concealability department.

I would also suggest that you look at the Elite model - the trigger is better on the Elite.

For the money I'd get the Glock 26. The Kahr pistols are heavier without being significantly smaller. The Glcok also offers 30-40% greater ammunition capacity.

Go Polymer Kahr

Try the Kahr P9 or P9 covert. They are lighter than the Glock, and have a much better trigger, IMO. The P9 series already have the elite trigger.

I appreciate the responses thus far.

I have already ruled out the P9 due to the reliability issues and wanted something a little flatter than the G26, although i may purchase one for my wife. She has shot both the G30 & G26. She used the G30 for her CCW test and scored a 96%. She shot over 100 rounds and had only two fliers while practicing the quick draw triple tap (Two to the body, one to the head). The two missed the head by about an inch). I was pretty proud of her as it was her first time shooting a 45.

I really would like some feedback specifically to the questions i asked:
I am most interested in peoples opinions between the two models i listed: MK9 & K9.

I don't own either, but have shot with both, so the following are my opinions based on a couple hundred rounds.

- Shootability?

I found the K9 to be easier to shoot well because I could get more of my hand on it and the K9 trigger was better than the MK9 on these two pistols.

- Deep Concealment?

I didn't try to conceal either of these pistols, but I think the MK9 wins this one hands down.

- Anything else i should be aware of?

If you're going to put a magazine extension on the MK9 you may as well get the K9 because the MK9's size advantage is lost with one.

- Is the MK that much easier to conceal?

It depends on you, but the MK9 is amazingly small for a locked breech 9mm.

Are you going to carry in a pocket, or holstered?

If you're going pocket carry, go with the MK9. If holstered, K9. The extra bit of handle doesn't make it any harder to conceal in a holster, but makes it fit the hand much better.

IMO, even the MK is too heavy for pocket carry, so I guess I'm telling you to get the K9.

Don't rule out the .40 models, either. Due to the all-steel construction they shoot very nicely.

The Glock 26 certainly does have a capacity advantage. In terms of weight, once loaded, the G26 and MK9 weigh about the same. Personally, I prefer the Kahr trigger over the Glock trigger, but YMMV. The big advantage the Kahrs have over the G26 is width. The Kahrs are simply much thinner, making it easier for me to conceal them. There's less stuff in your belt if you are carrying IWB, making it more comfortable. And I can fit an MK9 in the front pockets of my jeans with a pocket holster. No way I could do that with a G26. So the G26 and Kahr MK9 have their advantages and disadvantages. Both are fine guns.

The K9 is easier to shoot than the MK9. The MK9 has a bit more recoil than the K9, but it isn't bad by any stretch. The K9 has a very soft recoil. The MK9's shorter sight radius make it a bit tougher to shoot accurately. The MK9 can fit in your pocket; the K9 can't. The MK9 has a stiffer recoil spring.

If you're going to carry in a belt holster, buy the K9. If you want to do pocket carry, buy the MK9.

Or if you're like me, buy 'em both, just because ;)

Shootabilty:
I owned them both, I kept the K9 because it is so damn easy to shoot! My wife is not a handgun person because of the precived recoil. .22 rifles are her flavor, saying that, she has never complained about shooting it. It is very accurate, for me very pointable, it just falls in place.

I could not shoot the Mk as accurate or fast as the K. Follow up shots were not as easy with less gun to hold on too.

I live in Ohio so carrying either is out of the question, if my future takes me back to Texas, I feel I'm ready to go.

My best advice, because it is cheaper than selling a 2 month old used gun, rent them. Good Shooting!

Thanks for the concise feedback.

I was leaning towards the K9 and think i will go with that. I did get a chance to rent and shoot the MK9, but think i will like the K9 better. Who knows, i may end up with both.

Thanks again for the help.
