Kahr K9 or Sig 228/229?

Want to pick up a larger 9mm handgun for home defense/plinking and some CCW.

I already have a Kahr MK9 for CCW.

What I am wondering is should I go with a new/used Sig 228/229 ($500-550)in 9mm so that I can carry 10+1 and pick up some hi-caps. This would give me more rounds for a home defense situation.

Or should I pick up a used K9 Elite ($400) and just live with the ammo constraints.

Tell me what I should do...........................

Thanks,
Steve

I think most peoples' first preference for home defense is a riot shotgun. You can pick up a Mossberg 590 in the $330-$350 range easily.

With that said, I think you would be really happy with a sig for general plinking and home defense as well. I have a P229 .40 close to our bed for those 'bump in the middle of the night' situations. I prefer to have ten rounds of the larger caliber with 3 spare mags rather than the 16 9mm rounds my P99 holds for HD.

If ammo capacity and cheap plinking are first and foremost, then look into a P226. Std. capacity (15 round, 17 if you use them with post-ban followers) mags can be had for $99 new ($59 used) at KY imports and other places, and its added heft should be better for accuracy.

As owner of both guns mentioned above, I'd suggest you get the P228.........not only because it's a cool pistol, but the 13 and 15 round mags make it quite formidable for CCW. It happens to fit my hand very well, even though I shoot lefty. The manual of arms is a bit different than your MK9. It is very accurate though not as much as my K9elite98, and has developed quite a following as a near all-around great 9mm. The only downside is the finish is a bit more fragile than other pistols.

There is little advantage in getting the K9 when you already own the MK9 for CCW. Although I should add, I still carry the K9 as my primary CCW, and have left the P228 in my safe.... I did try to carry the SIG for a couple months successfully.

.....or just get 'em both!

It would have been a harder choice if you were choosing between a Sig P239 and a Kahr K9. Both have similar capacities.

The Sig 228/229 gets the nod in here because you have more rounds available.

Tell you what you should do??..hmmm..Move up to a .45!

The Perfect Pistol?

A Sig-Sauer P228; is very hard to beat. :D :) If in doubt,
compare the Sig P228 against a Sig P229 for balance. To me,
the P229 is just too top heavy.
