Kahr K9 initial impressions...minor glitch....(longish)

After hearing and discussing Kahrs with the folks here, I decided to buy one. Not the MK9 I was looking at, but the K9. People were not really as enthusiastic about the MK9, it seemed. Got a used (barely) E-nickle one from Gunsamerica. First impression: Heavy, but built like a bank vault. Smooth where it should be, square where it should be. Looks like quality machinery, the finish is good, slippery stuff. Sights-bar dot, a new thing for me, but the way they are shaped makes them function like Novaks-very crisp sight picture. Feels natural in the hand and points well as expected based on trying one out.
Used a "make do" holster. With a good one, it will carry and conceal better than my 3914, even with weight. I will try ISP and see if I can make it work with this gun, never have been able to before. I was disappointed it won't fit in my Bianchi fanny pack, too tall. May wind up getting a MK after all, I wanted something with more pop than my 642 for that type of carry.
Shooting: 100 rds. S&B ball, no problem. VERY easy to shoot small groups, easier than 3914 to make 25 yard silhouette head shots, don't know exactly why. The trigger MUST be handled like a revolver trigger to get best accuracy....no staging. Recoil/muzzle rise minimal, no more blast than with 4 inch 5904. With unsighted fire, POI is different than with S&W's, will work more on this as time allows. PROBLEM: 147 Gold Dots failed to feed every 3rd or 4th round, seemed to hang up on very first part of ramp. Gun may have been a bit dirty and may need some more breaking in. If not, feed ramp polish from local smith and\or switch to load with shorter OAL, maybe 115 or 124 GDHP. I prefer 147's, and don't wish to do that. Anybody have input on this? Summary: So far, MAN I like this gun, it is so "shootable." The bullets all go into such small groups. I think I'll do some more formal accuracy testing against the 3914.

Hello. I know you've fired 100 plus rounds through it. Mine would hang up on Cor*Bon 115 gr +P JHPs until about 200 rounds. It's never hiccupped since. Try a few more rounds and then you may need to polish the feedramp.
Frankly, I don't know if that'll help for if your ramp's like mine, it's mirror finished from the factory. Have you tried both magazines? Best.

JMHO but a 147gr Jhp might not open up when fired from a 3 1/2 inch barrel. I'm currently using ProLoad's 124gr +P JHP in my K9 Elite. Of course YMMV. :) Congrats on your new gun,Kahr came up with a winner on this one.

Okay, disassembled, cleaned and lubed. The little feed ramp....more of a feed ramp-ette seems slick but tool marks are visible. On the aluminum recoil spring guide rod, I noted two tiny burrs on the flange where the spring digs in. Wonder if it was fired with the wrong end on the flange? Stoned them down and will monitor this. This gun is so simple it is ingenious. The e-nickle cleans easily, like NP3. On ammo choice, I agree it may not open up, but I'm not sure anything will out of the short bbl. If it doesn't open, then it just punches a deeper hole and I'm fine with that too. Plan on more thorough testing, a third magazine (IDPA might be more fun with this little guy) and necessary leather. If anybody knows where I can beat the $38.50 price for mags, let me know. I may try the Graham leather gear mentioned in another thread. Any other wisdom about this gun appreciated, as it was you guys that talked me into it. This is the first NON-S&W weapon that I can recall buying in about 10 years.

On those magazines, cheaper than dirt has them for $25.23 each. you may pay some bucks on shipping, but you will from Kahr also. Good luck on your Kahr. I love my MK9. Its the one pistol I will never, ever, no matter what, be without.
