Hey folks, need some opinions on Kahrs K-40,I had a Mk9 a few yrs. ago that was a nice little 9mm, My shop has a used K-40 matte black that appears to have been fired (If at all)
just a handfull of times the two mag followers are not even scuffed. The price is $300.00 I believe this is a very good price, the gun fits my hand and points great for me,any one care to share experiences/recomendations? BTW I have been looking at a new K-40 nickel in anouther shop for $548.00.

Sounds like a good price -- the one you're looking at is blued, with the only disadvantage that it may be more prone to rust, although I stress the MAY part, as the matte stainless has been known to do this also. I have heard of some who have had their blued Kahrs refinished in Robar or similar finishes with satisfactory results, and you'd probably still be OK pricewise in doing this. I bought my matte stainless K40 used for $460 and thought I had gotten a fair deal, so I think you're doing well.

The $548 price for the K40 Elite 98 sounds about ballpark. Be aware that the trigger pull in the Elite 98 will be slightly shorter and is preferred by many. I am not too fond of shiny hard chrome on a carry gun, though, which is JMHO. Best wishes.

Thanks, I put a deposit on it earlier it is too good a price, It is matte black not blued.

No Sir, that is a GREAT price. Good thing you put a deposit down on it. Don't dismiss the gun to quickly, because of its recoil, as I did. If it concerns you, invest in the Haart's recoil spring guide rod and a Wolf extra power recoil spring. These are supposed to be just the ticket for taming the little beast. Enjoy!

I paid a bunch of cash for my stainless Kahr K-40 several years ago. That ($300)sounds like a reasonable price to me. Check out the serial number as some of the early Kahr's were shipped with very tight chambers and feeding was a problem. If you can arrange it, shoot it first before you buy it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the tight chamber problem related to the K9's, and that by the time the .40 came out they had this resolved (?). My K40 was made the first year, and no probs here.

I'll second the rec. for the Wolff extra power (22#) recoil spring -- before I put it in my K40, it was throwing brass upwards of 20 ft., and afterwards the recoil is noticeably tamer. The Harrt's is also slightly helpful, though more expensive. I'd also recommend wood grips for carry -- the rubber ones are too sticky (I don't have any gripes about my Pau Ferro wood grips from Kahr, though some have been unhappy with the fit and finish of theirs). Best wishes.

Riddleofsteel -- Factory night sights on mine, too. I learned about the Harrt's from someone on this board, might have been you. I carry mine in a Ky-Tac Braveheart IWB kydex holster, which I couldn't be happier with -- thin, great retention, rock solid, and very quick. I'll also put in a plug for SKD tactical, whom I purchased it from (skdtac.com) -- great people to do business with. Best wishes.
