Kahr E9 ammo suggestions please...

I recently bought a Kahr E9 and want to use ammo that will not cause it any problems. Any suggestions on good quality ammo to use for target and self defense?

I bought a box of Federal Hydroshock 124gr Hollowpoints for CCW carry. Was this a good choice?

You need to test fire a few boxes of different ammo to see what feeds and shoots with the best reliability and accuracy for you and your particular Kahr. I am going to be testing hyrdashocks versus golden sabers and possibly some gold dots coming up for my carry ammo. I would suggest trying all three or other brands that you derire to try.

The best ammo for your gun will be the ammo your gun likes best. Hydra-Shoks have always worked well for me, as has Winchester and PMC ball ammo. YMMV

You have to (1) determine what works in your pistol and (2) shoot enough that you've broken it in.

Having said that, I have had zero problems, either functionally or in terms of practical accuracy, with anything I've tried in an MK9. Have had particularly good results from Remington GS 124 +P, but YMMV.

First shoot about 200 rounds of any good FMJ ammo you get your hands on in order to "break-in" your gun. Try to use the same weight FMJ ammo as you will be carrying to maintain similiarity. Then start your real practice.

Any good high-quality defensive ammo should work, try a box of each to compare control, accuracy if you want to. Be sure to also observe how big of a "flash" the ammo gives off, since you will most likely be needing it at night and you don't need to blind yourself.

124gr Hydrashocks will work fine. Just remember to practice with a few boxes of whatever you decide to carry. Don't go cheap and try to save money here, is an additional $100 worth of ammo & rangetime worth it if you ever need to use that pistol?

My life is worth that extra cost & practice.

Congrats on picking up one of the sleeper values in modern autos.:) As your owner's manual states, fire at least 200rds to break it in. Any generic FMJ(ball) ammo will do fine for this. Then, after a nice cleaning, see if it will get through an entire box of 50 of your chosen Federal load. It should, without any problems.

ljiii, I didn't like my E9 when I first got it. I had a jam each magazine. I trashed the little pistol on every forum I went to. I teased Stephen A. Camp about his Kahr. Guess what? At the majic 200 round mark it became flawless and earned my respect. I agree with VictorLouis, put 200 rounds of fmj through the E9 and then look for defensive ammunition it likes. The E9 is a true jewel in the rough when you first get it. Regards, Richard
