Kahr cw9 and Taurus pt111 g2 9

I have owned the Kahr CM9 and MK9

Both were reliable weapons, but I could never get used to the long, (but smooth) revolver like trigger pull

My friend owns the Taurus and he has been happy with it.

Between the two, I would go with the Kahr.

But........

I moved to M&Ps, sold my Kahrs, and have been VERY happy

The Shield has some AMAZING rebates and the net price is just a little above these two that you are looking at

IMHO, the Shield is a significant step up in quality, accuracy, personal shooting pleasure, from the two pistols you mentioned

And...... when things are even close, I try to always buy American made

Good luck on your choice

Kahrs are American made, and their quality is no worse than that of S&W these days, IMO.

I have the cw9. Good ergos and very reliable. I however was never able to shoot it well. It always shot low. I know its not a target gun but I expected better at 7 yds. Tried to trade it but it has horrible resale value. Others have had better results. maybe its me or its the gun. See if you can rent one to try out before taking the plunge is my best advice.

I own a CM9 (slightly smaller version than CW9) and a M&P Shield for comparison. A lot of folks will recommend the Shield here (and rightly so, as it is an alternative worth investigation as well). I have also shot the similar steel-framed MK9 quite a bit. I don't own any Taurus pistols, and after my experiences with some, I wouldn't own any.

My CM9 has had perfect reliability for me with a wide range of ammo, and the CW9 is generally well-regarded in this respect as well. You hear of problems online with Kahr reliability, and those usually have to do with the .45ACP, .40SW, and .380ACP versions. The 9mm versions tend to be good to go.

The Kahr trigger is quite good. It's long, but not heavy and very smooth. With practice, it's easy to shoot these pistols relatively well. The main weakness of any Kahr pistol is any version of the Kahr magazine with a plastic baseplate (usually the extended length mags). These baseplates are ridiculously flimsy. Stick to the versions with metal baseplates (such as the 6-round mag for the CM9) and you'll be fine.

The M&P Shield, by comparison, feels more robust and is heavier and larger than the CM9 (which puts it closer to the size of the CW9). I get the feeling that it will survive a higher round count than any Kahr. The trigger is shorter and lighter than the Kahr trigger (which is all a lot of people even care about for some reason), but I personally don't shoot it any better. It's a grittier, more "springy" feeling trigger with a lot of stacking, and I don't get the feeling it will ever break in to be much better. Many folks laud the M&P ergos, but I don't find them to be that great. The texturing is pretty weak, and S&W put an unnecessary and uncomfortable seam right where your knuckle meets the underside of the trigger guard. Regardless, mine has been very reliable, and, while I don't know what kind of rebates S&W has going now, when they had the $75 rebate going earlier this year, they were CHEAP. I picked up my for $214.99 total after the rebate. I don't think you'll ever do better than that for a new high-quality pistol.

Again, I don't consider any Taurus pistols worthy of my consideration. YMMV.

I got my first Taurus because I figured the Taurus couldn't be as bad as he Taurus bashers kept saying. It was so bad, I bought another that was so bad I bought another. I now have 3 Taurus guns that are flawless and accurate.

I have a Taurus PT111 G2 that has given me no problems of any kind and it is my favorite concealed carry gun. I figure most of the Taurus bashers are simply gun snobs trying to convince others to spend as much money as they did.

The Kahr DAO is not as easy to manage as the various Tricky Triggers even though I am experienced with DA revolvers. But I stick with the Kahr because it is FLAT.

yep...... was refering to the Taurus....

But........ 3 things I dont like about the Kahr is

1) Mags are a weak link

2) An exposed slide spring needs to be updated

3) True Accurate Double taps with the LONG trigger and LONG reset are difficult (At least for me)

Its STILL a good gun and the small size of the CM9 was awesome.

However, once I moved away from the whole pocket carry world, I felt that the extra capacity of the M&P was worth it (IWB)

If you are referring to me, I actually prefer cheap guns, so no snobbery here. Hence my Shield recommendation. As of a few months ago (not sure what rebates are going on now) they were one of the least expensive new 9mm handguns one could buy (approaching Hi-Point prices).

I base my Taurus opinions on actual experience shooting Taurus firearms. A PT100 (.40SW PT92) whose slide would lock up every few shots, requiring a hammer to free. A Raging Bull with chambers so poorly cut that a hammer and rod was needed to free spent casings, etc. Honestly, I just don't have time anymore for stuff like that.

I've owned both and found both to be reliable. I like the Kahr triggers so I didn't have any problems with accuracy due to the trigger. The Kahr is easier to conceal but the Taurus has higher capacity.

Don't own a Taurus but I really like this new CW9 even though I haven't shot it yet. It is is my 4th Kahr (PM9, CW45, CT380).
The little gun just feels right in my hand more so than all my other carry pistols - including the LCP & RM380.
Plus the fact that the cash rebates from my recent Remington and S&W purchases covered the cost of this one. :)
