Kahr 4" ported barrel?

I am looking into tweaking my K40 a little more. Checkered wood grips, may a different finish, Elite trigger and have given some thought to the 4" ported barrel Kahr sells on their website. Its longer, so theoretically more velocity but ported so less rise.
The porting will decrease the velocity but should still be faster than my 3.5" OEM barrel. Any thoughts...good or bad?

Sundance,
Thats a pretty finite statement. I shot plenty of ported guns and actually...porting doesnt suck. It may not be inherently great for close to the body shooting..but if positioned and angled correctly it is quite functional. You should try and be a little more subjective from now on. :D Shoot well

One bad point is trying to see again after taking a shot in low light and seeing clearly for a follow up. This could vary with ammo also and the ports.

In case I stuttered the last time...

PORTING SUCKS

It is loud. It increases muzzle flash. It does very little for felt recoil...it merely redirects it, it doesn't lessen it. It is a gimmic...it is a fad...it is useless on a combat arm. It makes cleaning your gun harder. I have tried it...hate it...

I am for porting. It reduces much, much recoil so you are able to make rapid firing alot more efficient. Your double taps are also going to be more accurate and well controlled. Makes an awesome combat piece as well as a better competition/range gun.

In the snubbies Ive shot the porting helps muzzle rise ALOT and really doesnt increase flash at all. Thats compared to non ported guns ...mostly :D In a short barrel s/auto...I dont know how much effect it will have on either issue....
Shoot well

The longer ported barrel shouldn't be a problem unless you are using a closed holster. A closed holster won't allow for the extra barrel length unless you cut the end open.

Runt has a K40. Porting doesn't seem to make much difference in kick or noise, surprisingly, at least outdoors. No difference in muzzle flash, either.

Oleg may be right about the flash. I don't have any ported barrels, but the ones with compensators I have throw a nice flash. I didn't read the original post clearly. Comps really reduce rise. But thats a different animal.

Porting doesn't really increase muzzle flash, especially with a longer barrel... it just changes the shape of the muzzle flash. The brightness is a function of the ammunition. Flash-suppressed ammo will have low flash either way. It is louder, and you have to have enough brains to not point the hot gas-ejecting ports at your body. That's about it. I've shot ported guns extensively, and found that I don't mind recoil enough to make it worth the extra expense, but it didn't cause all the end-of-the-world horrible problems that some people claimed, either.
