K98 with the "K" marking

I reciently purchaced a k98 with the markings 41 DUV. It also has the marking 412 on it. In my research what I cant find out is a small lower case, cursive "k" stampped on both the reciever and the barrel. I have spent hours searching but I cant find it anywhere, If anyone knows anything about it I am interested to learn what it means.

K98 serial numbers only have 4 numeric digits. When they got to 9999 the next rifle they stuck a letter on the end.

0001-9999
0001a-9999a
0001b-9999b

Etc.

DUV is Berlin-Lübecker Maschinenfabrik.

You know you are required to post pictures, right....:D

Deja-vu all over again.

I wasn't sure if it was part of the serial number because of where it is located. I figured it would be in line with it not above or below like what I have.

It is part of the serial number, like the "h" on this one.

You were right the first time, it is simply the letter "k" in German script, and is part of the serial number. Since each maker ran its own serial numbering, and often rolled back to 1 on Jan 1, any description of a German military weapon, such as for inventory purposes, should include the maker (or code), serial number, suffix letter (if any), and the year. Only that way will the description be unique.
