K98 pawnshop find!

Hello all!! I found a k98 in a pawn shop can anyone help me to find out if this rifle is an RC its been sanded and is a mixmaster however it has no x nor import marks anywhere the barrel is marked Bo 201 and matches the receiver the code is s/42 1936 any help on this one??

That gun has been through a lot, and it certainly has been refinished. It appears to have a phosphate finish. The original finish on a 1938 S/42 would have been a smooth rust blue; the stock would have been oil finished.

Thank you for the reply! Any idea as to who could have re finished the rifle? Also what is the Bo201(o with an umlout) marking is for? Found on the barrel also the stock is sanded but exhibits no newly stamped numbers prehaps a balkin capture? And the K on the front sight under waa 63 what do u make of that and I'm assuming 300$ plus tax was fair?!?!? Best regards -Robert

$300 is fair, for a decent shooting K98, less than what it would have gone for out here, anyway. Probably a Russian capture, or maybe a bringback someone decided to turn into a 'black' rifle.

"Bö" indicates the barrel was made from Böhler steel. WaA 63 was the head Waffenamt inspector at Mauser in that period; he left in 1939 and 655 took over. The inspection team would have inspected every part of every rifle. (In theory; in fact, Mauser employees would have checked the parts and marked them and the army team would have spot checked. Later, when factories used slave labor, army inspections became more rigid.)

The "k" is probably a Mauser inspection mark.
