K98 Mauser floorplate question

I have a K98 A short barrel Mauser (1909 vintage) and ALL original. I was able to completely diassemble the rifle for refinishing except I can't get the floorplate to drop open. I squirted copious amounts of wd40 and CLP into the release plunger hole and tapped on the plunger vigorously while pushing down on the floorplate from inside the action. Neither the plunger or floorplate will budge. If I didn't know better, I would say the floorplate is welded on.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Noban, you're doing what I would do. Try holding constant pressure against the release and smack the inside of it with a nylon drift and mallet. George

Maybe this is silly, but you have to push to the rear on the floorplate while holding down on the release plunger. The best tool is the one it is designed to use, the bullet point of a cartridge.
