K frame forcing cone pictured, is it cracked!?

I bought a mint K frame Model 65 this week.
The revolver dates back to 1978 (thanks Jim)

So I go to the range and purchase a box of 158gr .357 rounds.
I shoot 50 rounds, go home and notice the following. It might or not been there because frankly I didn't pay attention to it.

There is a tiny dent on the front of the forcing cone. At the 7 O'clock position. It is not that big, but it can been seen and felt with the fingernail. The edge of the cone with the barrel is not dented. Nor is the inside of the barrel cracked in any way.

I know the previous and original owner personally, he is a friend of mine. He has not fired the revolver more than 200-300 shots at the most.
This thing is like new so its really weird. He used only 158gr rounds, no light or fast reloads.

Thanks a lot!

I see the 'ding' in the picture; If it bothers you, you could have the forcing cone re-cut and that would remove the spot (and probably reduce the possibility that it would become a 'weak spot' where a crack and accelerated wear could form).

I personally wouldn't be worried about it, but I'd definitely keep an eye on it and stick to 158gr loads (Specials, Special +Ps, or Magnums).

Small imperfection

Seems to be an imperfection on the outside edge that probably came from the factory. Photos of some gun parts during factory assembly show them in heaps and they may get slight dings.

Does not seem to be either a safety or function concern. K frames are nice handling guns.

No crack. Nothing to worry about. The cracks occur at the bottom of the barrel at the 6:00 o'clock position where the barrel and the surrounding metal is thinnest.

If you want to post a photo make sure it's of good quality ,focused etc so we can see things.
It doesn't look like it's a problem from that photo.

The photo looks plenty good enough to me; the dent is clear to see.
And that's what it looks like, just a small dent.
About the most it probably needs is to be smoothed out, so a crack is less likely to start.

I never saw an off center crack on a K frame forcing cone, IE a 1900 spot crack. I think the forcing cone is fine, and something happened to nick it, or perhaps that small imperfection snuck through S&W quality control. ;)

I agree with everyone else, you are fine.

You are ok. A split in the forcing will occur at the six a clock position at the flat portion.
Enjoy shooting your 65.
