K-22 ?

Hi all,
I just picked up a S&W .22 rimfire revolver today that I'm having trouble making a positive ID and thought someone here may be better informed than me on them.
It's a blued, P&R .22 lr., 4 inch with 4 screws. On the butt it has a K and serial #169XXX. The frame has a Z and 521XX with a 3 under that.
My dealer and I are calling it a K-22 and he suggested post WWII era.
My reference books don't show a K-22 in 4 inch but do list a M-34 1953 22/32 Kit Gun that sounds close.
It has adjustable sights with the third screw just underneath and a fourth screw at front of trigger guard.
Thanks in advance for any insight,
Brian

A 4" K-frame .22 is a Combat Masterpiece, Model 18 when numbers were assigned. Strictly speaking, a K22 is only the 6" (or 8 3/8") version, Model 17.

There are actually 5 screws, the other one is under the right grip. Yours is older than mine and I got it second hand in the early 60s.

A M34 Kit Gun is on the J frame and is a lot smaller gun.

Treasure the gun, whatever the year of manufacture. I have never seen a bad one. They are excellent examples of the gunmakers art!!!!!!!

Wow guys,
Thanks for the quick replys. It is a M-18 now that I look at it closely with my reference books. It's even older than me by one year. :)
I have a few S&W revolvers, mostly older ones, but aren't too up on the rimfires. I was picking up a 586 I had in layaway today when he showed me this one. I expect the $395.00 I paid wasn't too out of line for a 90% gun.
I'm looking forward to shooting it as I've only ever had Ruger semi-auto .22's, a MKI and Red Eagle. I guess it's about time I had a proper .22 revolver.
Thanks again,
Brian
