there are those of us who wax poetic about the virtues of the Remington 870(rightfully so) but I was wondering about the model 1100 semi. Does this shotgun hold a place anywhere near as exalted as the 870? I sold alot of 1100's back in the late 70's when working behind a guncounter as a young buck tyro and I am beginning to think that people were driven with semi auto-itis that ran counter with reliability. Any thoughts?

1100's were the best semi-autos on hte market for a number of years and still have a devout following. But most people won't stake their life on an auto when there is that chance in ten thousand that it might not cycle when they need it.

I own three 870 and three 1100 and like them both just as well.I tried O/U and Doubles and after a few hunts they went into the closet and out came one of the Remingtons.

I've seen some 1100's that were definitely more reliable than some 870's. Shells can get hung up in my 870's magazine tube on occassion, while someone else's 1100 will be shooting a fully loaded extended magazine tube like a machine gun. I've also seen at least one really unreliable older 1100 too.
