Just Watch the Democrats Now!!

They can cry all they want - But we have the House, The Senate, The Oval Office, and we'll have 4 new seats in the SCOTUS... They can cry and whine - but there are basically just unhappy frustrated old folks who's efforts have all been in vain.

Note to Liberals... When you Cheat... Just Cheat enough to WIN. Crying about it afterwards isn't becoming.

Democrats will do anything (I repeat, ANYTHING) to marginalize and discredit Dubya. He may have won the office but he faces a pathetically small majority in the House and dead even split in Senate. Big Media will play a one note samba saying he has to give into the democrat agenda. One the other side of the isle he is supported by a group of spinelessrepublicans. The same group that gave us the republican response to Clinton's impeachment fiasco will maneuver Bush's agenda through the Senate. Wanna see what I mean about spinelessrepublicans, read David Shippers "Sellout" but read it in the bathroom sitting next to the thundermug. You will puke at the morally spineless position these"leaders" held. I specifically refer to Trent Lott.

My view of the next two years? Democrats will put up a fighting retreat designed to scorch any republican proposal, the better to position themselves for mid-term election. Republicans will play dirty but different dirty than democrats. Bush, if he is made of the stuff I now think he is, will simply bypass the food fight going on in congress and appeal directly to the voter. Democrats who now hate his guts will change and merely hate him. Spinelessrepublicans will feel uneasy because Bush will succeed with out their input other than voting.

Summary, nothing will get done and I think that's just great. The longer congress remains caught up in its underwear, the better my life will be.

This doesn't deserve a new topic and I didn't want to raise an old, but did any of you see Jesse Jackson on Meet the Press? A light bulb exploded and he thought that someone was shooting at him. It was a very telling moment. Of course, he was with DRMRKJR when he was shot, but more than that, it was just like a little kid who had just done something wrong and he was caught. Very interesting moment.

If I was Jesse, I'd probably be concerned about being shot. However, I thought he recovered pretty well, but he probably needed new underwear after the show. Remember when the light stand fell on Bill/Hillary in the first Monica interview? Same look, very telling.

If any of you saw Dick Cheney on any of the past Sunday morning talk programs, you would definitely get the impression from Cheney that there will be no caving in to the Democrats. He said that they won the election, they had their core principles which they would not abandon, and that their programs were not radical.

So, if the Democrats start making a big ruckus over a major issue, say missile defense as an example, then Bush should do like Reagan did. Get on TV and take the Democrats to the public wood shed.

With Cheney being the President of the Senate, he has the tie breaking vote in a 50-50 party line tie. So, Cheney will be on Capitol Hill all the time. Good opportunity to police Trent Lott and any of the other Republican Senators who want to wander off the reseveration.

The problem with this "50-50 tie" business, is that it presumes party labels mean a great deal more than they really do. A fair number of nominal Republicans are ideologically in the Democratic camp, and run as Republicans only because the Democratic party isn't competative in their area. Same goes for some of the Democrats.

Let me put it this way; Who do you prefer, Dingle or Chaffee?

Worse yet, the Republican leadership really isn't with us; Why else do you think a juvenile crime bill comes up for debate right after Columbine? That was a deliberate effort on the part of the leadership to craft a situation under which they'd lose the fight against gun control. They WILL betray us to the extent they think they can get away with it, and a very narrow majority/tie gives them more opportunities to take a dive and make it look semi-plausible.

Mr. Bellmore, I see you mentioned Congressman John Dingle from Michigan. He is a leading Democrat in the House but a RKBA man. I think he was or is on the NRA Board of Directors.

Anyway, I was in a gun store over the week-end talking to the owner. Store is right outside the Washington DC. line in Maryland. The owner told me that Dingle was in the store and told him that he can expect a roll-back of a number of anti-RKBA Clinton executive orders and initiatives such as removing importation bans and stopping the destruction of surplus firearms, etc.

We will see!

John Dingel's son Chris is my senate rep. If John is anything like his son he is rabidly pro-RKBA, but Brett is right, those who want to Represent the People's Republic of Detroit had better have Democrat attached to their name or the won't get elected to dogcatcher.

We will see how it's going to go within the first ninety days is my guess. Personally I'm looking for Cheney to surgically implant stones and a spine on some of the Republicans. :)

House Democrats Seek a New Edge

Having fallen short in their quest to retake the House majority, Democrats have been questioning how they can better reach out to
conservative, rural, white voters in 2002 in a series of meetings this
week with Minority Leader Richard A. Gephardt (D-Mo.).

In what may amount to the most dramatic policy change, several lawmakers suggested that party leaders may be better off playing
down their support for gun control legislation. Gephardt repeatedly
decried the House GOP's inaction on the gun control issue in the aftermath of the April 1999 Columbine High School shooting, but
several conservative Democrats argued that this high-profile
approach backfired.

One Democrat who asked not to be identified said some members believe the push for gun restrictions hurt Democrats at the polls
by leaving them exposed to attacks by the National Rifle Association.

Thanks, Dz. I hope it's true.

I've been thinking about all of the union gun owners in states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, etc that voted for Gore. This, of course, after their union bosses told them that Gore favored Second Amendment rights. If Gephardt et al come up with a gun control bill and get it through congress and Bush signs it, I can see the Democrats in those states going back to the union guys and
saying, "see, we told you Gore was the guy to protect your guns."

But, with guys like DeLay, Craig, Bob Smith an others around, we may not have to worry about that. (crossing fingers)

I hope Cheney implants something in Trent Lott but I hope its his size 13C boondocker. Trent Lott is the Senate Majority Leader and he's the one tasked to fight the partisan battles. . . . but he ain't figntin'. Trent Lott is the one who provided Senate """"Leadership""""" during the impeachment fiasco. Lott needs to find another line of work. I hope Cheney and Dubya have the stones to fire Lott and put someone in the position who doesn't mind a little hand-to-hand combat. The democrats will be relentless and I just do not see Lott engaging in the political combat necessary to keep the democrats off balance much less defeated.

Firemedic:

The fact is the Republicans HAVE to share power if they want to get anything done. In the Senate, it takes 60 votes to close debate on an issue (called cloture). Any Senator who doesn't want a bill to pass can filibuster it (i.e., vow to talk forever). The only way to break a filibuster is to get a vote of cloture. Since the Repubs don't have the votes to pass a vote of cloture, they'll have to get 10 Demos to break ranks while keeping all of their own Senators breaking ranks. Which means that the only bills that will pass the Senate will be those that have bipartisan appeal.

Face it folks, the Republicans simply don't have the votes to ram anything down the Democrats throats.

And while we have a "majority" in the Senate for now (50 votes + the VP's vote), we may not have it for very long. IIRC, Strom Thurmond is 98 and Jesse Helms is 79, and both are in poor health. Both come from states with Democratic governors who will appoint a Democrat to replace them if they leave office (either retire or pass away).

In the house, out of 435 members, the Republicans only have something like a 6 vote majority. While there is no threat of filibuster in the House, that's still too thin a majority to be able to pass anything controversial.

Furthermore, as a general rule the party in the whitehouse loses Senate and House seats during the midterm election. In which case the Democrats will have a majority in the Senate. Either way, the "majority" in the Senate is likely to be short-lived.

If the Republicans decide to try and screw the Democrats in the Senate 1) they will fail to pass any bill and 2) they will find out that payback is a b*tch when the Democrats take over within the next 2 years.

The Republicans will share power or nothing will get done.

Seems to me a lot of people forget that during Clinton's first election he won only 43% of the vote yet he acted as though he had a mandate.

This time Bush got more votes then Clintonds first election so I think Bush has even more of a mandate then Clinton ever had!!!!!

M1911,
What you say is true about cloture. But as Newt said on 'The O'Reilly Factor', there hasn't been a successful filibuster in the Senate in over fifteen years.

Just goes to prove that even blowhards will only listen to other blowhards for so long and then they will vote to shut off even a partisan blowhard. There is still hope.

I also think, as Newt also said, "Wait until April or May, with the economy in the middle of a recession, and then see how many Democrats vote against a tax cut. If they do, they will be seen by their constiuents as voting AGAINST an economic turnaround for partisan purposes." Nobody wants to be painted with that brush.

So lets just wait and see. GWB's daddy promised 'No New Taxes' and we all know what happened to him when he renigged on that promise. The same will happend to GWB if he renigs on his promise of tax relief. We will just have to wait and see.
