Just talked to GSI. (M9 info and more)

Just talked to a sales rep at GSI and asked a number of questions...to which he had answers.

1) Steyr is NOT going out of business. They were bought and will be STAYING in the same facility they are in now. BMW is not buying their place.

2) Steyr is NOT stopping their export of guns to the US. However, with the transition of ownership, there could be a delay in getting some guns or parts. This delay could be as long as 6 months.

3) There are plans for an M45, however, the sales rep said he doesn't foresee this gun coming out for another 1 - 1/2 years. He was definite on the timeline.

4) I found out that SOME of the guns they sent to dealers (ones advertised with 1 clip) are considered demos by GSI, but don't panic because its really all semantics. His definition of "DEMO" was this: These particular guns needed a trigger upgrade and it was performed. They were then brought to the range and test fired (maybe 1 clip's worth) to assess that the upgrade was done properly. Every 5th gun was tested, yet they were all labeled as DEMOS.

5) Which brings me to my last point. Someone on another thread speculated that some dealer (CDNN in this case) had bought all the DEMOS and Refurbished M9 pistols from GSI and therefore could offer them at a discounted price ($369.99 w/ 1 clip). Well, the guns are demos -- possibly -- but according to the sales rep they are NOT refurbs. He said that they've never sent a gun back to be refurbished.

Hope this information is helpful. Just FYI

Thanks!

...for taking the time to share that info. Now if only I wasn't so darn broke! :( That's a good price on a gun that's always looked interesting to me. Oh well..... Thanks again.

Well I just bought an M40 (haven't recieved it yet). I was considering waiting for the S40 or M45. But now I'm glad I didn't wait (plus I got a good deal on the M40. $375 w/2 mags. It's had the trigger upgrade and the $35 gift certificate should even come with it)

So next time you're talking with the guys at GSI...ask if maybe in the distant future we might see an S45. I see no reason why it wouldn't work (the only real difference I can tell between the S and the M is barrel and grip length).

Swat11: I was the one that brought up the demos/refurbs at CDNN. Are you saying (or is your source saying) there's never been any demos that have had the trigger rework done on them? Or the ejection port flared? I do think CDNN is exagerating a bit on their "last ones ever!" sale. Ah well, capitalism at it's best....

I guess I was jumping to conclusions. Sorry.

Do you have any insight into the parts supplies at GSI? I've been trying to get a .40S&W barrel for my M357, but they never answered my email I sent from their site.

Regards,
James

trigger work WAS done........

GSI sales rep said that because they test fired these "trigger-upgraded pistols" that they HAD to be labeled as Demos. In other words, before they even shipped them out to dealers they went ahead and had the trigger upgrade down. 1-2 clips worth were shot through them at the range to verify the upgrade and then they were shipped out as demos. So, really, they're not demos in the real sense of the word, but technically they are.

As far as your question about the parts..... I'd call GSI directly and ask for a guy named Danny. I have no insight other than to say that with the ownership transfer it could take up to 6 months for parts to show up in volume.

Hope this helps.......
