Today. I broke my rule not to pay over $250 for a smith. This gun looks like new! It even had a dowel rod in the barrel that went into the cylinder so you could not cock the gun. No cylinder ring! I'm pretty sure the gun is unfired it looks that good. It has half a bebe on the front part of the front sight. Never saw a sight like that before. It has the pinned barrel with the wide trigger. Oh it is sweet and only paid $325 for this beautful smith.

I guess I have to break my rules sometimes but it was worth it.

The guy said the gun was about 30 years old? Is a 27-2 that old?

A pristine Model 27-2? For $325? Did you get the box & papers too or just the gun? Either way -- excellent buy!

Supica lists the M27 at $450 NIB so your price was pretty good, box or not.
(Excellent condition is $400).

The M27-2, depending on s/n, was made between 1961 and 1980.

Yours sounds like a 6" barrel with the Partridge front sight (rear edge of the front sight is verticle and some had a brass bead for sighting) made starting in 1975. These guns had target hammer & trigger, Goncalo Alves stocks and a case.

A model 27, in my neck of the woods, sells for $450 and up, even if the previous owner let his dog chew on it! Next time you go gun shopping, take me with you!

Uh-oh... did I pay too much for my 27-2 3.5"er...? $540... no box.

Opppps... my mistake, I meant to say $520 plus $20 shipping.

ZWolfgang, You may be able to find them cheaper in some places, but You bought a gun that is worth every penny of what you paid. And, as long as you take care of it, will only go up in value.

S&W .41 magnum is back

S&W is now making two 41M revolvers. A 657 and another model designed for hunting with a long ribbed barrel (8 3/8 inches I think) and slots for Weaver type rings. It's ugly. Both are stainless steel. I just got a 657 with a 7 1/2 inch barrel and Hogue rubber grips. It has a full length underlug similar to the Python and is a very comfortable shoot. Lists for like $750 and I paid about $625 from a local dealer (Dallas). The other is a "special" and lists for over a thousand.

For those of you who may not be aware of it...Ruger recently made a run of stainless Super Blackhawks (identical to the Super Blackhawk 44M hunter) in 41M priced about the same as my Smith. They are still available, but a lot of dealers don't know about them so you will probably have to educate them. I love mine.

By the way...what are all you guys (people...sorry) doing up so early on a Saturday morning?

Strange thread

"Today. I broke my rule not to pay over $250 for a smith."

Does that mean that you never pay over $150 for a Glock, or $300 for a Python?

Great price. Thats what a 98% Model 28 with pinned barrel goes for.

Hope you bought it from a dealer, or have a bill of sale with the sellers dl #. Have your friendly local PD run the serial numbers.
You would hate to be going to the range and get stopped and the numbers run, find out its stolen and spend a night in jail to see the judge. Ouch.

Better be safe than sorry.

No ozzieman. I just seam to find good deals on smiths. My last smith before the 27 is a mod 13. 3 inch. I got with two speed loaders mag pouch and holster for $200! The gun looked like new! I was looking at a mod 19 pinned barrel before the 27 cought my eye. I could have got the 19 for $200. It was in good shape but you could tell it was used. I got my 13, 586, 65, 627, 657, 625, for $250 or less. I did get a 646 for $465 that I bought new.

Gunmann I'm a pawn shop junkie. I know the people that run some of the pawn shops around here. And they know me :D . They give me good deals just to move the guns. Sometimes they don't know what they have and most of the time they don't care about the value. They are straight up with me. They add 25% on top of the price what they payed for the gun. The 27 came from a guy that has some real nice guns in this one pawn shop. The pawn shop called the guy and said that the guns are over due. That we will pull the guns and set them aside and you can pick them up when ever. The guy said let them go! So they did.

Because they came from a pawn shop I know the numbers were run. I also get some gun from a cop buddie of mine (detective). He is a gun nut like me. All he used was Beretta. One day he changed to Glock. I bought three of his Berettas. Still trying to get his 96 Elite :D . He bought 9 Glocks (I don't know why). He wanted to sell some after he figured out which one he wanted to carry (22) so I got a 17, 21, and 34. He still won't let his mod 20 go

If a deal with a gun sounds bad! Like a stolen gun. I won't even touch it.
