Just put a Remington R1 Stainless 1911 on layaway with buds

I finally started to pull the trigger on a 1911. I have a .22lr in 1911 but no true 45. Also I have never used layaway or Buds before. so I guess I killed 3 birds with one stone.

I wanted a entry level 1911 in stainless. Did not really want to pull it out of savings but could swing about $200 a month in fun money so wanted to go the layaway route. Origanally was looking at the Springfield GI, but the local stores did not have any in stock (nor buds). Most people seem satisfied with Buds, and they offer 90 layaway.

Also they have the Remington R1 1911 Stainless for $618 (including insured shipping) and my local guy charges $25. So it looks like I am getting it for $643 OTD.

Not a ton of reviews out there on the R1, espically the stainless, but for the most part what I have seen has been positive for an entry 1911. The only thing I was really hesitate on was that it does not seem to be +p rated, but that was not a deal breaker. A few questions.

1) What can you tell me about the Remington R1 (espically stainless)?
2) Are most entry level 1911s +p rated?
3) Have you used Buds Layaway? How did it go?
4) What can I do to keep my mind off it till I get her out of Jail?

Thanks

I have a R1, not stainless though. I have only put a few hundred rounds through it, but have had no problems. It is an entry level 1911 for me also.
The manual for mine says not to use +P ammo.

Congrats on your new pistol. It sounds like you got a good deal for what I consider a good gun. I certainly enjoy my plain R1.

I am not sure there is a need for a + round in .45 ACP. You can put most everything down with your choice of .45 slugs other than really big game. In this caliber, all you are going to do is prematurely wear out your pistol rather than provide yourself with more knock down power.

Let us know how you like it after getting a chance to enjoy it.

The R1S is a recent release, recent enough that I would doubt that there are any reviews out for the stainless model. I would expect that the R1S would be of the same quality of the blued R1. The first one that I saw at gun shows was 2 weeks ago, and was priced a bit higher at around $650. I have a R1 and I like it. Remington's 1911's seem to be of good quality but is one of those guns that people either totally love or totally hate.

I world not worry too much about the lack of a +p rating. A standard-pressure 230-grain .45 is a force to be reckoned with.

Please post pictures when you get the gun. The blued R1s I've seen are very attractive pistols.

For anyone that might be interested, I saw today that Buds increased the price on this to 680. I am glad I pulled the trigger on the layaway

Got one sitting in the safe for a customer who will be coming to pick up next week. Hard to let it sit without shooting. LOL. My first/entry to 1911 will be either the R1 or the Ruger.

For an entry level 1911 I was considering the R1 as well. Clean lines, nice feel, even weight were definitely on the pros side of the list. But on the cons side, the one I looked at had a bit of a tough slide (maybe it is in the design, maybe it was just the obey I handled.) Not only that, but the trigger had some play to it. That's what really turned me away from the R1. This definitely could be specific the the gun I handled or they may very well be incorporated ito the design. It wasn't for me, but it could definitely be the best gun in your arsenal, especially for an "entry level" mid-priced 1911. Hope you enjoy it once you've paid the bail bondsman!

Got her home this weekend. Man is she good looking. I will probably not get to shoot it until next weekend. But I am impressed with the fit and finish. I am not a 1911 guy, so I am not in a position to give a good review of tolerances.

I replaced the factory walnut grips with some buffalo horn grips. They look jet black until the light hits them right then they have streaks of gray and white. Pics cannot do it justice.

I wish I had gotten a picture of the white dot sights. Much improved over regular GI. The trigger is good. A slight creep, but not much at all IMHO

All told from Buds to my house it was $643. So far I am happy

I know this is an old thread but I received a call yesterday from my LGS that my stainless R1 they ordered for me had arrived and I'm going to pick it up this morning.

For those that have had them for awhile now, do you still like them ?
